The opportunity

The Software Configuration Coordinator is accountable for planning, coordinating, and governing software changes and releases across the enterprise landscape. This role ensures changes are promoted in a controlled, compliant, and risk-aware manner by partnering with development, Basis, enhancement, testing, and release teams.

This position is highly process-driven and requires experience with SAP Solution Manager (ChaRM, Enhanced Retrofits, Focused Build, Solution Documentation) and SAP Transport Management System (STMS). The role is critical to maintaining system stability and enabling timely, high-quality releases.

Your key responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and govern software releases and transport movements across the SAP landscape
  • Manage and oversee end-to-end Change Request Management (ChaRM) activities
  • Review, analyze, and remediate transport conflicts and retrofit issues prior to production promotions
  • Ensure adherence to release, change, and transport management processes
  • Coordinate with global, cross‑functional teams (Basis, Development, Testing, Business) to align on release readiness
  • Monitor dependencies and interrelationships among SAP modules to mitigate risk
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date solution and release documentation
  • Support governance forums by providing release status, risk assessments, and impact analysis
  • Enforce process compliance while enabling timely delivery of business changes

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

Hands‑on experience with:

  • SAP Solution Manager (ChaRM, Enhanced Retrofits, Focused Build, Solution Documentation)
  • SAP Transport Management System (STMS)

  • Experience with IT Service Management tools (e.g., ServiceNow)
  • Knowledge of ITIL Service, Change, and Release Management practices
  • Ability to lead and influence cross‑functional, multi‑location teams
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Able to manage multiple parallel releases and priorities with clear communication and effective organization
  • Proficiency in English business language required

Behavioral & Professional Competencies:

  • Detail- and quality-focused, with a consistent approach to following and improving processes
  • Works effectively with distributed teams, including coordinating work across time zones and knowing when to escalate risks
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Adapts to changing priorities by re-planning work, communicating trade-offs, and maintaining delivery quality
  • Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST, with flexibility required to work outside these hours based on business needs.

Why this role is critical

The Software Configuration Coordinator plays a key governance role in ensuring:

  • System stability during frequent releases
  • Timely promotion of critical fixes and enhancements
  • Reduced release risk through structured, repeatable processes

Not filling this role can result in release bottlenecks, higher defect leakage, increased operational risk, and over‑reliance on existing staff.
