Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi

With your contribution and my contribution, together we will thrive

The Team: Government & Public Sector Consulting Wellington

At EY, we are looking for Senior Consultants to join our Wellington Consulting practice, with a focus on Business Transformation. You will help clients use AI, data and human-centred approaches to solve complex business, operating model, service design and delivery challenges.

AI is now a core part of how we work at EY. We expect our people to be AI literate, curious and confident in applying AI responsibly, even though that capability will look different across service areas. For some, it will mean building or configuring data and AI-enabled solutions. For others, it will mean helping clients identify high-value use cases, redesign work, strengthen governance, manage change, uplift adoption or translate emerging technology into practical business outcomes.

Hei Oranga Iwi | The opportunity

This role is based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). As a Senior Consultant in our Wellington Consulting practice, you will work with clients across government, public sector and private sector organisations to shape, design and deliver business and operating model transformation, helping clients redesign how work gets done, improve performance and deliver measurable value through AI-enabled change.

Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities

  • Identify high-value AI and data use cases linked to productivity, service improvement, risk reduction, workforce effectiveness, customer or citizen outcomes and cost improvement. Translate business challenges into practical transformation roadmaps and AI-enabled solutions. Develop business cases, options and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Help clients move from AI ideas and experimentation through to implementation, adoption and measurable value. Work across both the technical and organisational dimensions of AI-enabled transformation.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders and explain complex AI, data and technology concepts in clear business language. Support responsible AI adoption, including governance, risk, ethics, privacy, controls and safe scaling. Contribute to a high-performing Wellington practice, including building capability, culture, quality and confidence in AI-enabled delivery.

Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success

We are looking for strong Senior Consultants who are AI literate, commercially minded and able to apply AI in different ways depending on their service area and client context.

You may bring experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • AI literacy and curiosity, with confidence using AI tools responsibly and applying them to improve work, services and outcomes. Strong consulting foundations, including structured problem solving, communication, stakeholder engagement and evidence-based recommendations
  • Business transformation, operating model design, service design or strategy execution. Strong problem structuring and “so what” articulation.
  • Experience in one or more consulting areas such as strategy, operating model, service design, change, governance, data, technology, transformation or delivery
  • Ability to translate AI, data and technology opportunities into practical business, people, process, governance and operating model implications. Understanding of responsible AI considerations, including privacy, ethics, risk, trust, adoption and safe scaling. Comfort working with multidisciplinary teams across business, technology and people dimensions of change, including in government and public sector contexts.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Excellent communication, inter-personal and organisational skills, with the capacity to influence project teams towards successful delivery.
  • Proven ability to turn ambiguous problems into tangible AI use cases
  • A pragmatic, action-oriented approach to delivery

Who will thrive in this role

You are commercially minded, AI literate or eager to build your AI capability, and enjoy working with clients to solve complex problems. You can translate ideas into action, engage stakeholders effectively and balance strategic thinking with practical delivery. You are comfortable working across business, technology and people dimensions to create measurable value.
