Hei Oranga Iwi | The opportunity

This is a senior leadership opportunity within EY New Zealand, based in Wellington, focused on the Government & Public Sector and adjacent industries. The role is central to building EY’s position across priority sectors, with a strong emphasis on driving sales outcomes, originating, shaping, and converting large, complex opportunities into revenue, and connecting clients to the firm’s multi-service capabilities.

With an established presence and strategic focus, the role requires a commercially driven, politically savvy leader who can translate relationships and market insight into tangible sales results.

This role will suit someone who can combine strategic thinking with market engagement and consistently deliver converted opportunities and measurable growth.

Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities

  • Lead sector growth by originating, progressing, and closing large, complex opportunities across government and public sector clients
  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives, including Tier 2–3 officials, Chief Executives, and Ministerial offices, with a clear focus on converting engagement into sales
  • Act as the senior market face, orchestrating EY partners and specialists to deliver cohesive, commercially compelling propositions that win work
  • Take ownership of market positioning, sales pipeline and conversion performance across priority sectors
  • Strengthen team alignment, leadership capability, and EY’s reputation as a long-term strategic partner that delivers measurable commercial outcomes

Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success

  • Deep understanding of the Wellington public sector landscape, including government structures, political cycles, and funding environments
  • Established senior stakeholder relationships (CE/DCE level), with credibility in politically sensitive environments and a proven ability to convert access into sales outcomes
  • Proven ability to originate and shape large, complex opportunities ahead of formal procurement, and progress them through to close
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of building pipeline and consistently converting opportunities into revenue
  • Experience within professional services, advisory, or public sector-adjacent environments
  • Ability to influence and align stakeholders in a matrixed organisation, building strong internal and external relationships to win work
  • High emotional intelligence, resilience, and a visible, well-connected presence within the Wellington market, with a clear focus on delivering sales results
