The opportunity

This position is responsible for advising on and developing strategies for addressing regulatory and public policy issues that impact EY in the Americas. Duties will include teaming within EY to identify opportunities and develop engagement strategies with relevant stakeholders on public policy issues, developing and maintaining relationships with relevant stakeholders and preparing related communications for internal and external use. Responsibilities also include monitoring public policy and regulatory trends of interest to internal and external constituencies.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Collaborate within the Office of Public Policy (OPP) and other internal groups to develop EY perspectives on public policy matters and strategies for disseminating these perspectives among relevant constituencies.
  • Collaborate within OPP and with other groups within the firm and global network to identify, monitor, research, analyze and report on public policy trends of interest to EY, such as capital market developments, global trade, technology and data flows.
  • Optimize interactions and further develop relationships with internal and external public policy stakeholders, including by developing written deliverables as well as identifying and sharing EY thought leadership that may be of interest to stakeholders.
  • Take the lead on preparing briefing materials for firm leadership on current and emerging topics and drafting periodic newsletters and other internal and external publications.

  • Must be able to think creatively about new opportunities for engagement with stakeholders and/or alternative approaches to engagement.
  • Must be able to think strategically about how to respond to and communicate about these policy trends and collaborate in the development of communications appropriate for different internal and external constituencies.
  • Must demonstrate a strong understanding and application of principles and practices of executive level communication, including concise writing and effective editing.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Receives general supervision and works independently within the area of expertise.
  • Familiarity with the US regulatory and public policy making processes, such as an understanding of the roles and decision makers in the US regulatory agencies, Treasury, the White House, as well as the role of the relevant think tanks and trade associations. Familiarity with the financial regulatory environment, the accounting and audit profession and/or policy issues affecting a large global network is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others and work concurrently on multiple tasks from multiple supervisors, on varying topics. Able to respond constructively to input.
  • With the support of OPP and our firm global network, an ability to maintain a professional network in the Americas to further EY public policy interests.
  • A broad based understanding of the global (and jurisdictional) bodies involved in corporate governance, financial reporting and capital market policy and oversight (e.g., the G20, Financial Stability Board, World Bank, IASB, IAASB, IFIAR, IOSCO and the OECD) is helpful.
  • Strong ability to monitor, analyze and think strategically about public policy developments to put them into context and to identify/communicate key concerns.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of how to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong ability to work in Powerpoint and prepare presentations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

 

To qualify you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree with advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-8 years of relevant public policy experience, preferably at a federal agency, trade association or other equivalent regulatory/policy experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be located within a commutable distance to the Washington D.C. office and be in office 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesday)

 

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese strongly preferred.

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business.  The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $77,800 to $145,400.  The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $93,300 to $165,300.  Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.  In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
