And we’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

EY’s multidisciplinary Quantitative Services (QS) team, specializing in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED), is seeking a candidate with a Resource Industry background to deliver advisory services to our clients in Vancouver and Western Canada. We offer an excellent opportunity for talented people to play a key role in EY’s rapidly growing and dynamic Incentives practice.

Position description:

As a Senior Tax Staff, QS SR&ED Technical Specialist you will be working with a variety of clients at the forefront of technology in industries such as Mining, Pulp & Paper, Oil & Gas and manufacturing. You will work closely with entrepreneurs and public corporations, to evaluate their developments and R&D projects, and prepare their SR&ED claims. This involves meeting with CEOs, CTOs, Mill Managers, and Technical Engineers to assess their project's eligibility to receive funding, establishing claim size, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project. You will discuss new prototypes, experimental trials, process improvements, and new product development for some of the leading companies in Canada. If you want to be exposed to exciting R&D initiatives in the Resource Sector in an exciting and dynamic team, this role is for you.

We are looking for a candidate with outstanding verbal and written communication skills to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and wants to continue their career in technology but wants more exposure to the business and financial side of an organization. If you are inquisitive and expressive, you will find this position both stimulating and rewarding, with great growth and learning opportunities.

As a Senior Tax Staff, QS SR&ED Technical Specialist, you will:

  • Meet with clients and leverage your broad knowledge in fields such as process improvements in mining, pulp & paper and oil & gas, prototype development, environmental research, cleantech research and new product developments in manufacturing.
  • Prepare detailed project descriptions for client R&D activities.
  • Assist in reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Manage client expectations and strict deadlines.
  • Participate in market initiatives and networking events.
  • Expand your network in the Resource Sector.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • 2-5 years’ experience with the SR&ED program would be considered a strong asset.
  • Strong understanding of mining, pulp & paper, oil & gas and manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Creative thinker - ability to innovate solutions to client problems. Willing to adopt a client-centric/driven approach and interested in joining a strong, dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (outgoing personality, written, verbal, and listening).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

What we look for

We’re looking for people with a genuine passion for tax, and the future of tax, and are inspired to help the world’s leading multinational organizations meet complex tax obligations around the world. If you have the confidence to speak up and influence a team that affects big businesses worldwide, this role is for you.
