Role Overview

The Senior – Business Valuation role sits within EY’s Strategy and Transactions (SaT) – Valuation, Modelling & Economics (VME) practice. The role is execution‑focused, with primary responsibility for hands‑on valuation of complex financial instruments in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

The Senior will support financial reporting, transaction‑related, and audit‑assist engagements, while also contributing to team development, internal reviews, and delivery quality. Client interaction is limited and primarily technical in nature, with close collaboration alongside Managers and Senior Managers.

Key Responsibilities

Handson Valuation Execution

  • Independently perform fair value measurement of complex financial instruments, primarily for IFRS financial reporting purposes.
  • Develop, review, and maintain detailed valuation models using advanced quantitative techniques, including:
  • Option pricing models (Black‑Scholes, binomial / lattice models)
  • Monte Carlo simulation techniques
  • Discounted cash flow and scenario‑based models

Execute valuations for a broad range of complex securities, including:

  • Share‑based payment awards (equity‑settled and cash‑settled awards, market and non‑market vesting conditions) under IFRS 2
  • Convertible instruments and preferred equity with complex rights and preferences
  • Derivatives, including options, warrants, embedded derivatives, and contingent consideration
  • Structured and hybrid instruments with multiple valuation components
  • Apply appropriate valuation methodologies in line with IFRS 13 – Fair Value Measurement, including assessment of the fair value hierarchy and use of observable and unobservable inputs.

Financial Reporting & IFRS Compliance

  • Support valuation engagements for statutory and financial reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with relevant IFRS standards (including IFRS 2, IFRS 9 / IAS 32, IFRS 13, and IFRS 3, as applicable).
  • Prepare clear, well‑structured valuation reports, working papers, and technical memoranda suitable for audit review.
  • Ensure valuation assumptions, methodologies, and conclusions are robust, internally consistent, and aligned with EY quality standards and professional valuation practices.
  • Stay current on updates to IFRS guidance, valuation methodologies, and market practices relevant to complex securities.

Audit Support And Valuation Review

  • Act as a key audit‑assist resource, supporting EY Assurance teams and external auditors by explaining valuation methodologies, assumptions, and conclusions.
  • Respond effectively to audit and internal review comments, updating models or documentation where required.
  • Participate in internal valuation reviews, assessing work prepared by junior team members to ensure accuracy, robustness, and IFRS compliance.
  • Support Managers and Senior Managers in ensuring valuation conclusions are defensible and audit‑ready.

Team Leadership And Development

  • Supervise, coach, and mentor junior team members, providing guidance on valuation concepts, modelling techniques, and IFRS requirements.
  • Review work prepared by analysts and seniors‑in‑training, providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Manage assigned workstreams independently, including planning tasks, monitoring progress, and meeting deadlines.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of internal valuation tools, templates, and technical guidance.

Client Interaction And Collaboration

  • Participate in limited, technical client interactions, primarily to explain valuation approaches, key assumptions, and outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with other SaT / VME teams and adjacent service lines (e.g., Business Valuation, Transaction Accounting, Assurance) on multi‑disciplinary engagements.
  • Support engagement delivery by maintaining high technical standards and consistent quality of output.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: CA / ACCA / CFA (or progress toward CFA) or a Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Financial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience in valuation, transaction advisory, quantitative finance, or complex securities valuation, preferably within a Big‑4 or leading advisory firm.
  • IFRS expertise: Strong practical experience applying IFRS‑based valuation requirements, particularly IFRS 2 and IFRS 13.
  • Audit exposure: Experience supporting audits or valuation reviews, including preparation of audit‑ready documentation and interaction with audit teams.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of valuation approaches (income, market, and cost) and their application to complex securities.
  • Advanced Excel‑based financial modelling skills; VBA skills are an advantage.
  • Exposure to Python, MATLAB, R, or similar quantitative tools is desirable.
  • Familiarity with market data sources (e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ).
  • Strong written and presentation skills using Word and PowerPoint.

Core Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Sound professional judgment in complex and judgment‑heavy valuation areas.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on team development and quality delivery.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and quality orientation.
