EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives - BTI - team, specializes in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development – SRED - and Capital Asset Reviews - CAR.  We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science and technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in a variety of industries to help them maximize their tax credits and achieve their business objectives. We’re looking for qualified accountants or tax professionals to join our team in Montreal or Toronto.

 

Position description:

 

As a Senior Tax Staff, BTI Costing Specialist you will be part a team working with clients at the forefront of technology, from entrepreneurs to public corporations, evaluating and preparing their SRED claims and finding other incentives and cash tax savings to help their business. This involves meeting with CTOs, CFOs, engineers, scientists and tax professionals to assess the client's eligibility to receive funding, establish how much they can claim, and work with EY’s technical people to identify and prepare SRED claims, capital asset reviews and incentives applications. You will be responsible for managing relationships to provide value to clients and developing skills in project management, risk assessment and business development. As a BTI Costing specialist, you will:

  • Participate in scoping sessions to determine if there are eligible SRED projects or expenditures
  • Prepare qualifying expenditure summaries
  • Assist with the preparation of the tax submission
  • Work with systems and tools related to SRED and tax incentives
  • Review expenditures on major capital projects
  • Assist and lead reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency
  • Manage client expectations and meet client deliverables within strict deadlines
  • Work as part of a cross-functional national team


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting or related discipline
  • Strong skills in Excel, SharePoint and familiarity with tax preparation software
  • Two years experience in a similar position and knowledge of the SRED program is preferred
  • Previous experience in a professional services firm in a tax or audit capacity is an asset  
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills plus the ability to interview and effectively probe for information
  • The ability to think quickly and creatively to determine innovative solutions for client issues
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Fluency in English is required as this position services clients across Canada; fluency in French is an asset
