EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives - BTI - team, is part of our Business Tax Services practice and specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, and capital investments as well as scientific research and experimental development – SRED. We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science and technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in a variety of industries to help them maximize their tax benefits and achieve their business objectives. We’re looking for an experienced Manager with an applied sciences background to deliver advisory services to our clients in Ontario.

Position description:
A Manager in EY’s BTI SRED practice meets with CEOs, CTOs and Technical Engineers to assess their project's eligibility to receive funding, establish claim size, and writes technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project. You will discuss new prototypes, experimental trials, process improvements, and new product development for some of the leading companies in Canada. Core elements of the role include
- Meeting with clients to leverage your broad knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to identify opportunities for claiming SRED. This includes assessing their eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project
- Acting as a principle point of contact for all incentives queries, and ensuring clients are provided with the most up to date legislative developments and direct funding programs
- Execution of a variety of corporate tax credit and incentive assignments including planning, compliance, and review with government authorities
- Coaching and mentoring more junior staff to execute assignments with accuracy and completeness
- Working collaboratively with internal financial experts to collaboratively prepare robust and defensible claims
- Communicating with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to balance a portfolio of clients and prioritize deadlines while maintaining exceptional client service
- Identifying opportunities for tax planning and other specialty services and contributing to thought leadership materials
- Participating in market initiatives and networking events
- Demonstrating professionalism through a positive and cooperative approach and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science, Technology or related discipline. A Graduate’s Degree is a definite asset.
- Knowledge of manufacturing or other sectors with burgeoning technological advancement.
- The ability to think creatively and deliver on the spot solutions for client problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities and an unwavering focus on client-centricity.
- The drive needed to be a self-starter as well as the ability to understand stakeholder needs and work proactively to build strong, enduring relationships.
- The ability to work effectively within a dynamic, team environment while managing pressure and adhering to strict deadlines.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Prior work experience in Tax or Business Incentives and a strong interest in learning more about innovative research and development
- 4 or more years of technical writing experience for SRED claims, grant funding or similar applications
- A broad interest in emerging science and technology along with a passion for helping Canadian innovators grow their businesses
