Managing global workforces is increasingly complex. Our People Advisory Services (PAS) practice delivers a suite of services and offerings focused on our client’s people agenda. With an enhanced set of joint people capabilities, we provide our clients with an effective and efficient set of integrated offerings solving their most pertinent people related business challenges. One of the key growth leaders that has been identified within the Canadian PAS tax practice is our Payroll and Employment Tax (PET) group. This is a specialty practice that primarily focuses on cross-border (international) and Canadian (domestic) payroll advisory services. You’ll be part of a team with a wide variety of experiences and a supportive environment.
The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Tax Staff or Senior Tax Staff to join our PET team to work on many payroll and employment tax engagements across a diverse client base. You will gain unique experiences and valuable knowledge working across capabilities, sectors and geographies and have the opportunity to take your career in the direction you want.
Your key responsibilities
Provide comprehensive advice on various payroll and employment tax matters:
- Prepare / Review and deliver Canadian expatriate (shadow) payroll deliverables to external clients
- Team with our Mobility tax colleagues locally and globally to providing an integrated client solution in respect to the taxation and reporting of cross border compensation
- Advice clients on their employer payroll tax and social security obligations in various cross border employee situations like remote work, business travelers etc.
- Support clients with payroll and employment tax audits
- Research and prepare responses to various technical questions related to payroll, employment tax and taxable benefits
- Assist clients with various payroll tax compliance issues, responding to queries from government tax agencies and providing solution-based responses to complex employment tax matters
- Assisting Managers / Senior Managers with internal EY protocols and administration of an engagement i.e. adhering to client acceptance procedures, developing budgets, determining resource requirements, timely invoicing and collection of outstanding receivables
- Timely delivery of mandates and manage client expectations
- Contribute to a flexible, stable, and team-oriented working culture that fosters personal development and a positive attitude

To qualify for the role you must have
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in business
- 1-3 years of experience in international/cross border personal taxation or Canadian payroll for international and domestic employees
- Strong desire to work in a payroll consulting environment (both expatriate and domestic)
- Aptitude to research and resolve employment (payroll) tax questions / issues
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, (Word, Excel & Power-point)
