The opportunity

 

EY’s Risk Consulting Actuarial practice helps insurers and financial services organizations address actuarial, financial and business challenges across life and health and property and casualty insurance. 
As a Staff Consultant, you will support actuarial engagements by analyzing data, assisting with models and calculations, and preparing client-ready deliverables while building your technical and consulting skills.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support engagements in valuation, financial reporting, pricing, reserving, capital, risk management, model development and validation, actuarial audit, and due diligence. 
  • Perform actuarial analyses and support the development, validation, documentation, and review of actuarial models and assumptions, delivering high-quality results with accuracy and professional judgement
  • Prepare clear analyses, working papers, reports and presentations for senior team members and clients. 
  • Research insurance market developments, actuarial standards, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies. 
  • Collaborate across actuarial, finance, risk, data and technology teams while managing assigned tasks and deadlines. 
  • Use AI and other tools responsibly to enhance analysis and delivery, validating outputs and protecting confidential data. 
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, business development and proposal activities.

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. 
  • Foundational actuarial knowledge and an interest in insurance and financial services. 
  • Clear written and verbal communication, collaboration and client-service skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, learn quickly and deliver high-quality work. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. 

 

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance or another quantitative field. 
  • Progress toward a recognized actuarial designation through the Society of Actuaries, Canadian Institute of Actuaries or an equivalent body. 
  • One to two years of relevant co-op, internship or professional experience in actuarial work, insurance, risk, financial services, consulting or quantitative analysis. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. 

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience with life and health insurance products and data. 
  • Exposure to valuation, pricing, reserving, modelling, financial reporting, capital or risk management. 
  • Experience with Excel VBA, SQL, Python, R or actuarial modelling software. 
  • Knowledge of Canadian insurance, actuarial, financial reporting or regulatory requirements.

Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

  • Toronto: $65,500 to $99,000
