The opportunity
As a Senior Manager, you will be a professional member of our Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) practice working under our Treasury & Commodities specialty. In Canada, our FAAS team consists of dedicated financial reporting and accounting advisory professionals in seven locations across the country. We are a high growth Sub-Service Line under Assurance and are constantly looking to expand our portfolio of services across the CFO agenda and evolving Finance field of play.
We combine technical accounting skills in IFRS, Canadian and US GAAP to compliment quantitative valuation exercises for complex energy-based financial and non-financial contracts.
We are seeking a Senior Manager with minimum 10-years experience in quantitative modelling and valuations in the Energy sector, with a focus on the US energy and regulated markets to join our Treasury & Commodities team. They will be based in our Toronto, Calgary, or Montreal office.
Your key responsibilities
As a Senior Manager, you will lead and participate in valuation and financial analyses and applying valuation theories and approaches in the Energy sector, including: gathering relevant supporting information; analyzing market and research information; participating in the formulation of valuation approaches; developing valuation models; and preparation of formal and informal valuation reports for a variety of matters such as tax, financial reporting, valuations, and litigation matters.
You will partner with our technical accounting specialists to help translate the valuations and related methodologies to financial reporting implications, including the application of hedge accounting for our both our Channel 1 Audit and Channel 2 Advisory client base.
This position requires experience to cultivate and manage client relationships and people management skills. You will expand and strengthen existing client relationships by participating in internal and external business development activities.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong academic background: Master’s or PhD degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Financial Engineering or a similar quantitative discipline is required.
- CBV and/or CFA designation
- PRM and/or FRM certification would be an asset
- 8-10 years of relevant experience, with a specific focus on the Energy industry
- Technical accounting experience in IFRS and US GAAP. Knowledge of financial instrument accounting, derivative accounting, and the application of hedge accounting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and clients
- Ability and desire to stay informed of changing market conditions and new regulatory developments in the Energy industry and their impacts on clients and related valuation models.
- Deep interest in understanding the client’s industry and recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and new technical and industry developments
- Understanding of model risk management regulations (an asset)
- Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence tools (an asset)
- Project management experience, as well as ability to supervise engagement teams, including delegation and review of work performed.
- Attend training programs and continually develop skills.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with clients.
