EY has a well-established Climate Change and Sustainability practice to respond to our client’s growing need of guidance in key areas, including social and environmental sustainability, climate change, sustainable finance, and environment, health & safety (EHS). Our services are varied, but include strategy and implementation, impact measurement, assessment of policies, programs and management systems, assurance over sustainability-related data and greenhouse gas emission verification.  

 

We are looking to expand our team of professionals focused on providing high value, independent, trusted advice to our clients as they transition to a more sustainable economy. Our Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCASS) team is growing exponentially, and as a Senior Manager, you’ll play a key role in that growth with the provision of EHS advisory services. Working across many industries, you’ll develop your career by communicating creative, strategic goals both internally and externally. It’s all about listening to and understanding our clients to give them a truly exceptional experience in a field where there really are no off-the-shelf recommendations.
 

Your key responsibilities

 

As a Senior Manager, you will lead complex EHS advisory engagements from early scoping through to delivery and client outcomes, operating across strategy, assessment, and implementation mandates. Given the breadth and variability of the work, no two projects will be the same—you will be expected to think critically, navigate ambiguity, and challenge existing practices to develop practical, business-driven solutions to complex issues. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, structuring problems, facilitating alignment, and translating technical EHS considerations into clear business impacts and decision-ready recommendations. The role offers exposure to a diverse range of engagements spanning operations, risk, and digital enablement, requiring strong collaboration across service lines to bring integrated solutions to clients. You will also play a key role in building client relationships, identifying opportunities to expand engagements, and delivering high-quality outputs. Regular travel across Canada (approximately 30-40%) will be required to work closely with clients, including engagement with senior leadership teams across industries, some of those being the most respected in their fields. 

 

Skills and attributes for success

 

Client Leadership:

  • Lead a team to deliver a variety of EHS consulting engagements, including, but not limited to EHS strategy, enterprise safety culture transformation, EHS management system design and implementation, EHS risk assessments and audit programs
  • Structure complex and ambiguous client challenges into clear problem statements, hypotheses, and actionable recommendations
  • Lead & facilitate client meetings, drive discussions with senior executives/leadership teams, positioning EHS topics in a business context to support leadership decision-making
  • Oversee the development of high-quality and engaging written deliverables and client presentations, aligned to client decision needs, with strong linkage between analysis, insights, and recommendations
  • Understand the client's industry and recognize key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments
  • Stay informed of general business/economic developments and their impact to the client.
  • Establish expectations of value to be delivered
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with the client management throughout the year along with demonstrating technical expertise
  • Assist with overall client relationship/engagement activities, business development and account management efforts

 

Team Leadership:

  • Lead cross-functional/matrix teams to ensure timely, accurate, and effective implementation of engagements that achieve client objectives
  • Delegate work successfully; provide hands-on coaching in both technical EHS knowledge and consulting skillsets, conduct timely performance reviews and provide performance feedback/training.
  • Build capability across team members in both technical EHS knowledge and consulting skillsets
  • Exceptional project management capabilities and communication skills
  • Use technology and other resources to continually learn, share knowledge with team members, and enhance service delivery.
  • Awareness of emerging AI and digital tools, with the ability to apply them to enhance analysis, reporting, and delivery efficiency
  • Maintain a personal educational program to continually develop skills.
  • Develop long-term relationships and networks both internally and externally
  • Work with teams and personal networks to generate new business opportunities
  • Demonstrates initiative and ownership in driving outcomes in complex and evolving environments

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • This role involves interaction with clients, colleagues, and/or stakeholders nationally and globally where fluency in French and English is required. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role.

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • University degree in the fields of Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental management
  • 12-18+ year’s consulting, project management or industry experience with a focus on EHS risks and opportunities and/or operational safety. Experience should cover strategy evaluation and development, management system design and implementation, process improvement and reporting.
  • At least two of the following areas of expertise: environment, occupational health & safety, industrial hygiene or operational risk
  • Experience leading complex, multi-stream engagements with senior stakeholder interaction
  •  Experience supporting or contributing to proposal development, scoping, or pricing discussions

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

 

Experience working with or supporting implementation of EHS/IT platforms, (e.g. ServiceNow, Cority, SAP, Intelex, Enablon, Sphera)

EY reports salary ranges in accordance with applicable provincial pay transparency legislation. Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

  • Toronto: $125,000 to $175,000
