Key Responsibilities
- Claims management: supporting Claims Partner and Director in liaising with insured member firms for updates, strategy discussions, reviewing reimbursement requests for appropriateness under policy terms, and report writing for insurer’s claims committees and reinsurers on professional indemnity, property & casualty and cyber insurance claims.
- Identifying potential insurance coverage issues in all insurance programs.
- Advising on coverage disputes, including working with outside counsel.
- Supporting management with advice on and management of corporate governance, company secretarial, and identifying and creating necessary documents for recording of corporate matters.
- Legal advice on operations issues including sanctions and anti-money laundering regulations.
- Supporting incumbent legal counsel and underwriting team with the management of insurance renewal, including preparation of local policy documentation, tracking of document issuance, review of signed policies, and creation of additional required local documentation.
- Supporting incumbent legal counsel with other contract reviews, including inter-captive reinsurance policies, contracts with member firms for specific services, and other vendor/supplier contracts.
- Dealing with ad hoc queries from insured firms regarding insurance coverage, insurance certificates, and contracting issues relating to insurance.
Skills and Abilities
- Degree from a recognized law school
- Valid admission to practice in a recognized jurisdiction (admission in Canada, Bermuda, UK or US preferred).
- 5+ years post qualifying experience as a lawyer in private or in house practice.
- Strong commercial and/or insurance litigation background, ideally with some experience of contract review and negotiation.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills – this role requires integration into a small team and building relationships with insureds in multiple different countries.
- Flexible attitude – prepared to tackle any issue and prepared to work across time zones.
- Insurance background helpful but not mandatory.
- Curious mindset and ability to assimilate sometimes complex technical issues quickly are critical.
