The opportunity

 

The Assurance practice operates in a highly regulated and rapidly evolving environment shaped by changing professional standards, technology, data, AI and increasing expectations for audit quality. In this role, the Learning Leader (LL) is responsible for setting the learning and curriculum strategy for the Canadian Assurance practice and overseeing the development, localization, governance and deployment of learning that builds technical capability, supports career progression and enables consistent, high-quality execution. The role reports to Canada’s L&D Business Partner and Canada’s Chief Learning and Development Officer (CLO), and strategically aligns with the Assurance Managing Partner, Professional Practice, Quality Network, service line and competency leaders, the Talent Team, and Global and Americas L&D groups.

 

The Assurance LL leads the end-to-end curriculum lifecycle and works with leaders, practitioners, Talent functions and subject matter resources across geographies to align learning with business priorities, professional standards, quality findings and deployment requirements. Success requires trusted relationships, senior stakeholder influence, innovation and a disciplined approach to governance while balancing enterprise consistency with Canadian needs.

 

This is a 14-month contract role requiring flexibility to work additional hours, including occasional early mornings or evenings, during peak curriculum, deployment or reporting periods.

Your key responsibilities

  • Serve as the strategic learning advisor to the Assurance leadership team, Professional Practice, Quality Network, Service Line Leaders and Talent leaders
  • Set and communicate the multi-year Assurance learning and curriculum strategy, annual priorities, roadmap and success measures
  • Own curriculum architecture and governance across Assurance, ensuring coherent learning pathways by rank, role, service line and capability
  • Translate business priorities, professional standards, regulatory developments, quality findings and emerging risks into timely learning solutions
  • Oversee annual curriculum approval processes with appropriate business, Professional Practice and quality stakeholders
  • Oversee the design, development, curation, localization, translation, maintenance, deployment and evaluation of Assurance learning programs, using learner, compliance, quality and business data to assess impact and drive continuous improvement
  • Provide strategic direction for Core Training and other priority curricula in partnership with Global and Americas Assurance Learning teams, balancing enterprise requirements and leading practices with Canadian needs
  • Oversee learning plans for new hires, experienced hires, transfers and specialized populations, ensuring appropriate technical and role-based development
  • Oversee the Facilitator Excellence program, ensuring qualified facilitators are identified, prepared and supported through sufficient training, ongoing upskilling and readiness standards to deliver high-quality learning experiences
  • Establish governance, controls and documentation that support learning compliance, quality management requirements and reliable reporting
  • Lead the Assurance learning budget and resource strategy in collaboration with L&D and Assurance operations
  • Lead, coach and develop the Assurance Learning team, setting clear priorities and promoting collaboration, innovation and operational excellence

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the Assurance service line, audit quality priorities and the professional environment in which the practice operates
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a learning strategy and translate it into an integrated, role-based curriculum portfolio
  • Strong consulting, relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to work with senior and technical stakeholders, manage competing expectations, build consensus and make clear recommendations
  • Deep knowledge of curriculum design, adult learning, capability development and learning evaluation
  • Strategic and systems thinker who can connect professional requirements, business priorities and learner needs
  • Excellent organizational, portfolio, project and change leadership skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to governance, controls, documentation and risk management
  • Proven track record leading teams and delivering complex priorities on time and on budget
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures, geographies and matrixed teams, and to handle sensitive information confidentially

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in Learning and Development, Assurance, Audit, Professional Practice, Talent Development or a related field
  • A CPA designation or equivalent professional qualification is strongly preferred
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, accounting, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, Adult Learning or a related field is an asset
  • Experience leading enterprise or service-line curriculum strategy, governance and delivery in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex matters clearly to senior stakeholders
  • A demonstrated commitment to staying current with evolving professional standards, audit methodologies, learning practices and enabling technologies, with confidence using learning technology, data and AI-enabled productivity tools
  • Advanced capabilities in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with learning management systems, reporting tools, MS Teams, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint is preferred
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset

EY reports salary ranges in accordance with applicable provincial pay transparency legislation. Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

  • Vancouver/Victoria: $126,800 to $211,300
  • Dieppe: $114,000 to $190,000
