EY is on a mission to shape the future with confidence — and communications are at the core of helping us realize that ambition. The Assistant Director, Executive Communications, supporting our Chief Technology Officer and AI portfolio is part of EY Canada’s Brand, Marketing and Communications (BMC) team. This role works hand-in-hand with senior partners to develop and execute thoughtful, integrated and forward-thinking communications strategies, approaches and messages. Serving as a trusted communications advisor, you’ll collaborate with Communications and Engagement colleagues and internal stakeholders to drive awareness and impact of firm AI priorities and programs to our 9,000 Canadian professionals.
As a marketing savvy communicator, you are an incredible writer at heart, have an intrinsic drive to connect with audiences, a bold vision and an exceptional eye for detail. You are comfortable with the unpredictability that is part of a dynamic corporate environment like ours and thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed, high-visibility setting. If status quo isn’t in your vocabulary, have a natural talent for words and you’re interested in being challenged, you’ve come to the right place.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute internal and external strategic communications strategies and brand plans for our Chief Technology Officer and broader AI function.
- Serve as a senior member of the Communications and Engagement team, sharing knowledge, leading or co-leading initiatives and collaborating with BMC colleagues in Canada and across the EY Global network.
- Ensure a consistent and clear messaging strategy and vision across all communications channels, including email, webcasts, video, social, digital, intranet, speeches, content and other new media tools and platforms.
- Extract key objectives and simplify complex concepts and content into cohesive, clear and concise messaging for broad audiences – quickly and independently.
- Apply critical thinking to anticipate and communicate the potential outcomes of decisions to stakeholders, the team and leaders — proactively connecting the dots between internal and external communications and broader marketing efforts.
- Measure and report on communications results to stakeholders and the wider team.
Skills and attributes for success
- Broad and proven experience with executive communications in highly visible environments.
- Strong strategic, proactive thinking complemented with a solid business acumen.
- Extraordinary communicator with the ability to adapt messaging and tone for the given channel and audience.
- Proven ability to influence and build collaborative relationships with C-suite executives.
- Impeccable attention to detail and exceptional organization and accountability.
- Proven ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels to deliver outcomes that drive business objectives — delivering excellence both individually and at the team level.
- A high degree of comfort with ambiguity, change and continuously evolving priorities and open-minded to new or transformational ideas.
- Capacity to manage multiple initiatives while meeting deadlines with a keen focus on the stakeholder at the centre of everything you do.
- Familiarity, comfort and enthusiasm with using AI as part of enabling your day-to-day success.
To qualify for the role, candidates must have:
- Bachelor’s degree with a Communications or related major.
- 7-10 years of relevant experience; B2B experience strongly preferred.
- Best-in-class skills in writing, editing, consulting, influencing, consensus-building and interpersonal communication.
- Deep understanding and extensive experience with executive communications.
- Previous experience with communications in support of change management is a strong asset.
- Proven experience and comfort navigating a highly matrixed, fast-paced yet dynamic work environment with the ability to remain organized, multitask and adapt quickly on a variety of projects with competing deadlines.
- Ability to think outside the box and operate with a sense of urgency in developing engaging and creative executive communications that resonate with audiences.
- Previous experience working in a Professional Services environment an asset.
- Previous experience working within technology or leading communications for AI programs a strong asset.
- This role involves interaction with internal and external clients and professionals nationally and globally. Professional competency in the English language is therefore a requirement of this role. Bilingualism in both French and English is considered an asset.
