The opportunity
EY Canada is looking for an experienced candidate to join its General Counsel’s Office as Legal Counsel, Employment, focusing on employment law and human resources related matters. We are a team of in-house lawyers and staff based at EY Canada’s head office in downtown Toronto. We are currently working under a hybrid work model, although you would be welcome to work full time at our offices. You will work closely with our employment law team, and other relevant stakeholders within EY.
Your key responsibilities
- Provide strategic counsel, both independently and supporting fellow GCO team members, to business leaders and Talent Team professionals that balances risk and EY’s business interests
- Respond to and manage employment-related claims, litigation and workplace investigations
- Proactively monitor and advise relevant teams on changing provincial employment legislation and regulatory compliance requirements
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop Talent-related policies and processes
To qualify for the role, you must have
- 2-4 years of solid employment law experience preferably at a large law firm or employment law boutique
- Professional services related experience would be an asset
- Current knowledge of employment litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes, as well as privilege and discovery rules
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- A professional approach, team player & excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply (proficiency in French is considered an asset, but not required)
