The Opportunity
EY’s Canada Tax & Law Technology Group (CTTG) is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to help define and scale our data-driven strategy, offerings, and solutions. This is a leadership role and plays a pivotal part in shaping how data is leveraged as a strategic asset —informing new services and building new solutions, strengthening existing offerings, and enabling smarter, more scalable Tax & Law delivery.
The successful candidate will bring a strong background in data strategy, analytics and data science/engineering solutions and will operate as a connector between business leadership and technology delivery teams. This is not a pure data engineering or academic data science role (though hands-on experience is welcome). Instead, we are looking for a senior data leader who can define data strategy and architecture, experiment with new approaches, and guide teams in using data for actionable insights and building market-ready solutions.
This role is well suited for data professionals who enjoy experimentation, prototyping, and exploration, while also being motivated to operationalize insights and build repeatable, scalable services and offerings.
This job posting relates to an existing vacancy within our organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Tax & Law leadership to define and execute a data strategy that advances service delivery, managed services, and new market offerings; including connectivity between different competencies.
- Identify and shape data-enabled use cases aligned to business priorities, client needs, and long-term platform strategy.
- Lead discovery discussions to understand business problems, data opportunities, and information gaps, articulating the art of the possible with data.
- Experiment with new data sources, analytical approaches, and tools to test hypotheses and validate strategic use cases.
- Define end-to-end data-driven solutions, including data extraction, transformation, integration, modeling, analytics, and visualization.
- Translate business requirements, workflows, and operating models into clear functional and technical direction for delivery teams.
- Guide the design and delivery of data and analytics solutions leveraging platforms such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Dataverse, Azure data services, Alteryx, and related technologies.
- Oversee data ingestion, cleansing, transformation, and orchestration across multiple structured and unstructured data sources.
- Enable data integration and interoperability using APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, and modern integration patterns.
- Work closely with agile delivery teams to evolve successful experiments into scalable, secure, and reusable data assets and analytical products.
- Establish clear roadmaps and prioritization for data initiatives, balancing innovation, scalability, and governance.
- Collaborate with technology, risk, and enablement teams to ensure solutions align with EY standards, data governance, and compliance requirements.
- Provide thought leadership on data strategy, analytics trends, and emerging capabilities relevant to Tax & Law services.
Skills and Attributes for Success
- Strong understanding of data strategy, data governance, and information architectures, including data extraction, transformation, and integration concepts.
- Ability to think strategically about data as a product and enabler of new services and managed offerings.
- Hands-on or working knowledge of analytics and data preparation tools such as Alteryx, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Comfort exploring data, experimenting with approaches, and iterating toward scalable solutions.
- Ability to move fluidly between exploratory analysis and structured, production-oriented delivery.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and align data initiatives to business objectives.
- Strong data storytelling, problem-solving, and process analysis skills.
- Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments.
- Excellent executive-level communication skills, including the ability to convey insights and strategy through data.
- Collaborative leadership style with experience working across multidisciplinary teams.
- This role is not focused on academic research, standalone statistical modeling, or long-running experimentation disconnected from business delivery.
To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; advanced degrees are an asset.
- 8–12+ years of experience in applied data science, analytics, data strategy, or technology consulting roles with production delivery responsibility.
- Experience defining data strategies, analytics roadmaps, or data-enabled service offerings.
- Experience working with data extraction, transformation, and preparation tools (e.g., Alteryx or equivalent ETL/ELT tools).
- Hands-on experience with data visualization, analytics, or business intelligence platforms (e.g., Power BI).
- Experience working with diverse data platforms, data models, and structured and unstructured data sources.
- Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, data product delivery, and agile methodologies.
- Experience gathering and documenting requirements and guiding solutions from concept through implementation.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Exposure to Microsoft ecosystem technologies (Power Platform, Dataverse, Azure data services).
- Tax, Legal, or professional services experience is an asset.
