The opportunity
EY Law LLP, in Canada and Mehlman Jacobs LLP, in the United States are immigration law firms and member firms of Ernst & Young Global Limited. These law firms offer a comprehensive range of U.S. business immigration services to corporate clients and their employees. A unique opportunity exists for experienced US immigration attorneys to work with EY Law LLP and Mehlman Jacobs LLP as independent contractors.
This position is 100% remote.
Overview
As an independently contracted Attorney, you will deliver US immigration legal advice and compliance services, helping corporate clients navigate complex requirements and implement effective immigration strategies. Your work will span non immigrant visas such as H-1B, L-1, E, TN, immigrant visa categories, PERM labour certifications, naturalization, and related matters.
Key responsibilities
- Review and validate immigration case strategy to ensure alignment with client objectives and regulatory requirements
- Review and validate materials prepared for submission to government authorities
- Lead legal consultation calls with corporate clients and their employees
Skills and attributes for success
- Deep knowledge of US business immigration law and ability to apply it in complex scenarios
- Strong judgment and attention to detail in assessing strategy and filings
- Confidence leading client conversations and providing guidance to stakeholders and foreign nationals
- Proactive in identifying risk and delivering compliant, practical solutions
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree
- US bar licence - any US state - and licence to practice US law in the state or province of residence
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing US attorney
- Minimum of 3 years of practice experience in US business immigration law
- Advanced knowledge of one or more areas of US business immigration
- Commitment of 20 hours per work week is required.
A Canadian-based U.S. Attorney will be contracted to EY Law LLP. A U.S. Attorney based in the United States will be contracted to Mehlman Jacobs LLP. The initial contract term will be 1 year, with possibility to renew on an annual basis.
Independent Contractor Attorneys are not eligible for vacation entitlements or employer benefits.
