The Opportunity

 

The CPA Learning Manager is a national, cross-service-line role responsible for leading the management and delivery of EY Canada’s internal CPA learning and student support programs and the associated processes that support CPA students on their path to membership. It is the responsibility of the CPA Student Program Associate Director and the CPA Student Learning Manager to ensure its overall effectiveness from a firm business perspective and that of the needs of our CPA students. Strategic thinking and constant reinvigorating of our internal CPA education program and the associated processes are essential to the success of our CPA students.

 

The role requires a strong understanding of the Canadian CPA Professional Education Program and practical experience requirements in each region of Canada and a willingness to adapt and learn the new CPA Professional Program which will launch in 2027.

 

Working closely with the Associate Director, the CPA Manager provides day-to-day program leadership, manages complex projects and recurring program activities, and guides the work of Supervising Associates, Associates and Coordinators. The Manager builds trusted relationships with CPA students, mentors, internal stakeholders, Pre-Approved Program Leaders, Recruiting, HR, Resource management, CPA bodies, instructors and service providers; identifies and resolves or escalates complex issues; and supports informed decision-making through clear analysis, recommendations and reporting. The role combines hands-on operational leadership with stakeholder management, coaching and continuous improvement, helping the team deliver a consistent, inclusive and high-quality CPA experience across Canada.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages the creation and selection of the internal CPA education preparation material by working effectively with the CPA Student Program Associate Director and all external education instructors and material providers.
  • Manages the delivery and execution of EY’s educational program by working effectively with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Specialist and all external education instructors.
  • Manages the communications of all CPA exam results related to CPA students by working effectively with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Specialist, HR, Resource management, leadership and the local CPA Bodies across the country.
  • Collaborates with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Specialist, and leadership in managing the various CPA celebrations.
  • Works closely with Recruiting, HR, and Resource management across all service lines to communicate the CPA learning needs, process requirements and priorities.
  • Works closely with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Student Program Manager and all Pre-Approved Program Leaders across all service lines on issues related to EY’s Pre-Approved Programs and the specific needs of students as they complete their practical experience.
  • Collaborates with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Student Program Manager, and Pre-approved Program Leaders to manage all CPA Canada Practice Inspections across the country.
  • Collaborates with the CPA Student Program Associate Director to develop & manage the delivery of CPA Practical Experience training for students, mentors & Pre-approved Program leaders across Canada.
  • Attends regional CPA Body meetings with the CPA Student Program Associate Director
  • Teaming with the business on CPA program needs for the existing CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) and/or the new CPA Professional Program.

 

Analytical/decision making 

  • Makes key decisions and suggestions based on a solid understanding of firm and business objectives and needs analysis.
  • Establishes a plan, determines the priorities and defines the process and steps required to achieve the identified objectives.
  • Collaborates with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Student Program Manager and the CPA Student Specialist to develop and manage the internal Sharepoint site for CPA student education and practical experience which includes communications, materials and policies for CPA students, local office CPA contacts, mentors and Pre-Approved Program Leaders.
  • Works closely with the CPA Student Program Associate Director on identifying and obtaining sufficient instructors and mentors to support students in the internal CPA preparation program.
  • Manages the tracking and maintenance of all relevant information required about CPA writers and disseminates information as appropriate to recruiting, HR, Resource management & leadership.
  • Identifies ways in which to control and minimize training costs while maximizing the quality and effectiveness of the learning experience, thereby optimizing learning investment for staff and for the firm.
  • Collaborates with the CPA Student Program Associate Director, CPA Student Program Manager and the CPA Student Specialist to draft and manage the CPA learning budget.

  • Ability to support and lead change;
  • Strong relationship management skills, including the ability to manage and influence key decision makers;
  • Strong understanding of the business, the strategies and priorities, and how they translate into the needs of the CPA education and practical experience program will be an asset to enable the ideal candidate to manage stakeholder expectations and to build consensus;
  • Strong organizational, project and time management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability and confidence working with technology and learning new software;
  • Strong coaching, consulting and facilitation skills;
  • Able to exercise judgement in situations that are not routine;
  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner; and

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Canadian CPA designation required.
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, stakeholders and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including filters, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables). Proficiency in Power Query and other advanced functions will be an asset
  • Knowledge of compliance processes or regulated learning environments is an asset
  • Experience working with external vendors, subject matter experts, and managing program logistics is an asset
  • Proven ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable improvements
  • Experience coordinating and delivering virtual and in -person learning programs is an asset

EY reports salary ranges in accordance with applicable provincial pay transparency legislation. Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.

  • Toronto: $94,100 to $144,100
