The opportunity

 

The Finance Controlling team is seeking for a strong financial accountant to support the EY Oceania organization. Controlling is one of the central finance teams within Oceania. The role provides support to the Oceania Accounting Operations Lead on interpretation of financial information, preparation of reconciliations and financial statements, reporting and ad hoc analysis and investigations. You will work closely with other members of the Oceania Finance team.

 

This role will establish a trusted relationship with their client, understanding their needs and teaming with other Finance team members to bring best in class analytical support, functional expertise and reporting solutions.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Balance sheet reconciliations preparation for AU, NZ and PNG Entities
  • Payroll related activities including, but not limited to, payroll balance sheet reconciliations, bonus accrual reconciliations and identifying and actioning any variances with the Oceania Payroll team
  • Preparation and distribution of monthly payroll reports to the service line finance teams.
  • Fixed Asset Register maintenance, reconciliation and depreciation reports, including completion of monthly checklist
  • Month End closure activities including journal posting, reporting and reconciliations
  • Weekly processing of journals and invoices in relation to our Oceania contractors (Gignow) and building relationships with our third party provider (CXC)
  • Support during year end close process and internal/external audits as needed
  • Support in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements on an individual entity level
  • Develop back up plan and focus on cross training the team
  • Support in identifying and implementing process improvement ideas
  • Training new hires and maintaining SOP documents
  • Trouble shooting and query management, including responding to requests and queries from the finance teams and broader business as needed
  • Ensuring adequate internal control procedures are in place
  • Regular client and stakeholder connects
  • Driving exceptional client service
  • Create and develop an environment to help and motivate the team members to optimize their performance and professional growth
  • Mentor team members and provide direction/ guidance to them

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Possess statistical or data driven and problem-solving skills
  • Have sound understanding of accounting concepts
  • IFRS knowledge is desirable
  • Good judgement skills
  • Effective delegation, multitasking and attention to details
  • Understand financial reporting goals and basic process flow
  • Ability to understand numbers and arrive at inferences
  • Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to teach the juniors

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 6-8 years experience in financial reporting and other accounting processes.
  • CA or ACCA (or country equivalent) either partially or fully completed
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS office tools – predominantly Excel and Power point
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal; strong presentation and client advisory skills

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Exposure to Power BI, SQL or any other visualization tools
