Senior Data Analyst
The opportunity
As our Data Analyst, you will join a team of multidisciplinary professionals in a role that focuses on collecting, combining, and exploring data to create insights that support our clients with their decision-making processes. As part of our team, you will build solutions that utilise our clients’ data to enable insights within the accounting, finance, governance, and regulatory space and pursue automation in the process to create efficiencies.
This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.
Your key responsibilities
Everything you’ll do will come back to providing exceptional analytics for our clients. Colleagues and clients from diverse backgrounds will look to you for answers, so you will be a key contact when it comes to designing, building, and understanding complex data analytics.
As you build your knowledge and experience, you’ll become a credible advisor, influencing clients and engagement teams on resolutions that will impact future analytics solutions, delivery, and processes.
You will:
- Consistently deliver exceptional client service solutions to allow our clients to gain greater insight into their data and the value that data analytics can bring to an organisation.
- Transform how we deliver our services to the client; exploring new ways of doing business and using technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Be an active problem solver performing advanced financial analysis and reporting in complex business areas, while building technical competence.
- Develop business acumen and a comfort level in designing solutions that address client inquiries and emerging issues, including industry practices, and new technologies.
Skills and attributes for success
- Demonstrated experience in data analytics, business intelligence, data transformation, data visualisation, or a related analytics-focused role.
- Experience working with large, complex and diverse data sources, including the ability to identify data quality issues, anomalies and trends, and transform data into meaningful business insights.
- Experience developing analytics and data transformation solutions using technologies such as SQL, Python, Alteryx and Power BI (including DAX), and related analytics and data technologies.
- Experience working within modern data and analytics platforms, including technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure data services, or equivalent cloud-based analytics environments.
- Experience designing and delivering dashboards, reports and visualisations using leading data visualisation platforms such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge existing approaches and develop practical, value-driven solutions.
- Ability to understand business objectives and translate stakeholder requirements into scalable analytics and reporting solutions.
- Experience working within professional services, financial services, banking, retail, government, or other data-intensive industries, with exposure to solution development and analytics delivery.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to present findings, recommendations and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior client stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritise competing demands and communicate project status, risks and capacity effectively.
Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.
- Tertiary education qualification(s) in Business, IT or STEM related disciplines.
- Developing data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and analytical solutions using modern data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, or similar technologies.
- Building intelligent automation, AI-enabled solutions, machine learning models, AI agents or robotic process automation (RPA) solutions.
- Applying programming and scripting languages to automate data preparation, transformation, analysis and reporting activities.
- Exploring and applying emerging technologies, including Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI agents, to improve business processes and decision-making.
