Your key responsibilities

 

  • Work alongside the Oceania Data & Technology Law Leader to help set and drive the privacy vertical within the Digital Law strategy across the practice
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on all aspects of data protection and privacy risk strategy and compliance, and assisting our clients in data-intensive industries with managing high data privacy risk projects;
  • Provide advice on complex governance matters arising from data as a product, data management, data monetization, AI use and deployment, data ethics and other advanced uses of personal data
  • Advising clients on privacy by design, DPIAs, responding to personal data management requests, managing data maturity assessments, drafting privacy policies and advising on international data transfers
  • Assisting clients with their employee and stakeholder privacy management policies and practices, as well as helping them to provide stakeholder education and awareness training, in line with Australia’s data privacy laws
  • Provide clients with incident management advice to help them ensure that data privacy incidents are responded to and managed effectively and that relevant authorities are informed within necessary timeframes
  • Drive business development initiatives and develop strong connections both internally and externally in the market to promote EY Law’s data and technology law offering
  • Advise a prestigious client base on a wide range of other technology (outsourcing, procurement, cloud, XaaS, AI/ML, AR/VR, IoT, blockchain etc.) intellectual property and e-commerce law issues.
  • Remain at the forefront of changes in the regulatory landscape to be seen as a SME in your field by clients and colleagues alike

 

Skills and attributes for success
 

To qualify for the role you must have 

  • Strong academic background, technical knowledge and commercial acumen with a minimum 10+ years PQE experience in Australia or New Zealand
  • Private practice experience in privacy, technology and commercial agreements is required. Experience in a leadership role of a privacy law practice would also be an advantage
  • Strong executive presence – ability to build and maintain a strong network of connections and stakeholders both within EY and externally to grow the digital law offering
  • Motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced consulting environment with the ability to translate complex legal advice into clear, succinct recommendations
  • Comfort with novel technologies and a track record of providing logical solutions to complex legal challenges in the absence of settled law and practice
  • Proven strong technical legal skills and able to work across Australia’s diverse privacy legislation 
  • Proven stakeholder management skills including the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure interdependencies on client matters are met
  • Proven business development capabilities to meet real revenue target and growth demands
  • Proven ability to manage engagements to time and budget across multiple projects across different industries and disciplines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to present reports
