Product Lead, Product Management - Oceania Tax Technology - CTO Tax Office - EY Rank of Senior Manager or Director
The opportunity
As Product Lead, you will build and lead the product management capability for Oceania Tax, shaping how technology investments translate into measurable business, client and practitioner outcomes.
This is a Director level leadership role with end to end accountability for establishing a product led operating model across Oceania Tax technology—covering portfolio strategy, product governance, discovery, delivery, commercialisation, adoption and retirement.
You will own the strategic direction, health and value realisation of a diverse portfolio spanning internal practitioner platforms, compliance and reporting solutions, analytics and AI enabled capabilities, and selectively productised client facing offerings. Your mandate is to ensure the portfolio is focused, scalable, commercially sound, and demonstrably valuable.
Success in this role requires a senior product leader who can operate at enterprise scale, balance innovation with risk, and embed product discipline within a complex, matrixed professional services environment—while still moving decisively.
This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia.
Your key responsibilities
- Portfolio strategy and outcomes: Set and own the Oceania Tax technology portfolio strategy, focusing investment on high-value priorities, guiding build/buy/partner/reuse/localise/retire decisions, and ensuring initiatives deliver clear value and adoption.
- Product operating model and governance: Lead the Product Management function by establishing standards, governance, and prioritisation, guiding ideas from inception through to adoption and retirement, and representing priorities in senior forums to influence funding decisions.
- Discovery, delivery and adoption: Lead product discovery, form accountable product squads, and ensure smooth adoption and integration into daily workflows.
- Commercialisation and go to market: Partner with Go to Market and Alliances teams to shape product propositions and pricing, support strategic sales activities, and report on commercial outcomes.
- Technology, data and responsible AI: Collaborate with technical teams to ensure products are secure, scalable and enterprise-ready, embed responsible AI with robust controls, and monitor product health, usage and support needs.
- Leadership and capability building: Lead and develop Product Managers, foster a strong product culture focused on evidence, learning and accountability, and influence effectively across matrixed and offshore teams.
Skills and attributes for success
- Senior product leadership experience across enterprise platforms, compliance, SaaS or complex B2B solutions, with accountability for end to end product outcomes.
- Proven ability to build or mature a product management function, including operating models, governance and talent.
- Strong discovery and prioritisation capability, translating ambiguity into clear product bets and roadmaps.
- Commercial acumen across investment cases, value articulation, productisation and adoption economics.
- Experience working closely with engineering, architecture, data and security leaders, making informed trade offs across value, risk and speed.
- Credibility and influence with senior stakeholders in regulated or risk aware environments.
- Demonstrated leadership of high performing teams in matrixed, globally connected organisations.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Experience in tax, law, finance or other regulated professional services environments.
- Experience with internal platforms that can also be externalised or packaged as client-facing offerings.
- Exposure to AI-enabled products, workflow automation, analytics or agentic solutions.
- Experience working across local and global product ecosystems.
- Tertiary qualifications in business, technology, law, finance, tax or a related discipline; postgraduate study is advantageous.
In this role, success will be demonstrated by:
- Establish and embed a clear product management operating model, ensuring defined ownership, governance, and decision rights across the portfolio.
- Develop a prioritised, outcome driven product portfolio that aligns with Oceania Tax strategy, regulatory requirements, and client needs, actively retiring low value or redundant initiatives.
- Drive measurable improvements in adoption, usage, and practitioner efficiency for core platforms and solutions, supported by a repeatable discovery and investment process that converts ambiguous ideas into validated, value backed product bets.
- Enhance speed to value through well formed product squads, disciplined backlogs, predictable release cadences, and enable pathways from internal solutions to scalable, commercial, or reusable offerings where appropriate.
- Build a high performing product management community with strong capability depth, effective coaching, and clear succession planning.
