Legal Counsel – Corporate and Commercial Practice Group 

 

The Opportunity

 

As our Legal Counsel for Corporate and Commercial Team, we are looking for a generalist lawyer with corporate and commercial focused background to join the in-house legal team at EY in the General Counsel’s Office (GCO). This is an opportunity to work closely with and learn from sophisticated internal clients. You will form an integral part of the client facing teams, while also developing relationships with experienced risk, governance and service delivery professionals. You will develop a bespoke set of legal skills through your exposure to the complex legal issues affecting a top four professional services firm. There is a diverse range of legal work, which allows lawyers to pursue expertise in an area of their choice. 

 

This role is based in Warrang – Sydney. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

 

Your key responsibilities

 

  • Autonomously manage, draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts used by our business across all service lines including engagement agreements, technology and managed services agreements, consultancy agreements, master services agreements, global framework agreements, and strategic business relationship agreements. 
  • Provide timely and proactive advice and guidance to the business on varied legal issues, including governance, intellectual property, information security, data protection, liability and risk mitigation.
  • Assist the pursuits team with contract reviews for tender submissions.
  • Partner with our business and engage with the business stakeholders to assist with firm wide and GCO projects.
  • Collaborate with our colleagues locally and around the world on complex global engagements, initiatives and projects.

 

Skills and Attributes for Success

 

  • Current Australian practising certificate.
  • At least 4+ years post admission experience.
  • Proven experience as an in-house lawyer, ideally with some top tier law private practice experience.
  • The ability to provide strategic commercial advice to stakeholders across the business 
  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills
  • Pragmatic problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively 
  • Ability to work autonomously and to escalate when required.
