Due to continued growth and traction within the market, we are looking to hire a Senior Consultant to join our Private Equity Deal Origination team, based in Sydney.

The Private Equity Deal Origination team is EY Parthenon’s dedicated resource for originating transactions and deal opportunities for our stable of acquisitive private equity clients. We provide clients with unique and proprietary investment themes, deal ideas and insights, and value-accretive buy-side opportunities to assist in capital deployment.

Recognised as the stand-out market leader for unearthing proprietary, off-market investment opportunities to PE dealmakers across Oceania, the team is a crucial lynchpin in EY Parthenon’s go-to-market strategy for Private Equity.

This role will provide the individual with the opportunity to:

  • Build external relationships with dealmakers at Private Equity Funds
  • Develop skills in private equity deal evaluation and valuation techniques
  • Be a key member of an experienced, market leading team to helping drive proprietary Investments for our PE clients
  • Build internal relationships with Director, Partners and Senior Partners across the EY Parthenon business globally

Reporting to the Head of Origination, you will assist the team in driving success for our clients through:

  • Formulating and developing investment thematics suitable for private equity funds
  • Identifying leading companies and businesses for investment opportunities
  • Preparing market leading insights, intel and discussion materials for select PE funds
  • Engaging with business founders, management teams, advisors and private equity funds to drive deal pipeline

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify industry trends and analyse data to assess impacts on sector performance
  • Comprehensive industry screening and market mapping to identify attractive investment targets
  • Research and collate company details and information; including financials
  • Valuation analysis; covering precedent transactions and trading multiples
  • Maintain CRM and opportunities pipeline
  • Preparation and presentation of investment thematics, reports and research materials
  • Cultivate and build strong working relationships EY Parthenon services lines and key private equity clients, along with founders and management team of target businesses

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Outstanding business acumen and commercially astute with the ability to identify and assess industry and business specific risks and opportunities;
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities with foundational financial analysis skills with solid understanding of corporate finance concepts and valuation techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to articulate ideas and viewpoints in a clear and concise manner
  • Working knowledge of private equity industry
  • Experience with industry databases, CRMs and AI tools
  • Self-starter with initiative, high drive and a bias for action
  • Collaborative mindset required to achieve success in smaller team settings
  • CA or CFA viewed preferably
  • A bachelor’s degree 2:1 or above or equivalent

 

What we look for

The ideal candidate will be someone with a keen interest in private equity with +3 years professional experience that may have been gained in M&A advisory, management consulting, transaction advisory, equity or industry research.

We are also interested in hearing from candidates from data analytics or technology backgrounds who can improve the deal origination workflow and are interested in pivoting to a career in Private Equity.
