The opportunity:

Join EY Technology Consulting as an Automation Tester, helping deliver quality engineering across modern insurance platforms. You will contribute across functional testing and automation, working with business and technology teams to support high-quality customer experiences and insurance processes.

You will perform end-to-end testing across Guidewire and connected digital platforms, with a focus on functional testing, Playwright UI automation, API validation and scalable automated regression. You will also contribute to emerging quality engineering approaches, including AI-assisted automation and reusable testing solutions.

Based in Melbourne or Sydney, this is a hybrid Consultant-level role where you will build hands-on experience across insurance technology, automation and quality engineering while contributing to client delivery.

Your Key Responsabilities

• Design, develop and maintain UI automation frameworks using Playwright for web-based insurance applications and customer-facing digital journeys.
• Perform functional testing of insurance processes covering Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing, Renewals, Endorsements and Underwriting workflows.
• Validate end-to-end user journeys across web applications and Guidewire products to support seamless customer experiences.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Owners to translate functional requirements and user stories into comprehensive automated and manual test scenarios.
• Execute cross-browser and cross-platform testing using Playwright to validate consistent application behaviour and performance.
• Support UAT activities by validating business-critical insurance workflows and requirements traceability.
• Contribute to automation Proofs of Concept to evaluate emerging tools, frameworks and AI-driven quality engineering solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency through AI-powered automation, self-healing frameworks, intelligent test execution and predictive quality analytics.
• Build reusable automation components and frameworks that improve coverage, execution speed and maintainability across insurance applications.
• Contribute to innovation initiatives using Playwright, Generative AI, API automation and cloud-native testing solutions.
• Build and maintain scalable automated regression suites.
• Develop API test frameworks using Java 11+, JUnit 5 and Rest Assured.
• Validate REST APIs, Guidewire integrations and end-to-end insurance workflows.
• Embed automated testing and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Contribute to performance and reliability testing using Gatling and apply service virtualisation and mocking using Hoverfly, WireMock or MockServer.
• Use Splunk to support observability and production readiness and contribute to testing across containerised and cloud-based environments.
• Pair with colleagues, participate in Communities of Practice or Guilds and support other delivery roles where required.

Skills and attributes for success

• Strong capability in functional testing, including validating complex insurance business rules and workflows.
• Experience with Guidewire Insurance Suite testing, including integration and API validation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Property & Casualty Insurance domain, including Quote, Policy, Claims, Billing and Underwriting processes.
• Hands-on capability with Playwright and experience building and maintaining Page Object Model frameworks and reusable automation components.
• Capability with Java 11+, JUnit 5 and test automation, together with experience using Rest Assured for REST API testing.
• Hands-on capability with technologies such as Spring Boot, JavaScript or TypeScript, Gradle, Swagger and Postman or Bruno.
• Strong understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, DOM, network requests and browser debugging tools.
• Experience validating customer-facing digital platforms including Quote & Buy, Self-Service Portals and Policy Management applications.
• Ability to analyse business requirements, identify test coverage gaps and develop comprehensive test scenarios for insurance applications.
• Understanding of API security, microservices architectures and end-to-end testing strategies spanning UI, API, integration and backend systems.
• Experience with test and defect management tools such as Jira, Xray or Azure DevOps.
• Ability to review test cases, test evidence and defect quality and contribute to test planning, estimation and status reporting.
• Understanding of Agile or SAFe ways of working, with strong communication skills and ownership of automation delivery.

• Exposure to Java 17+.
• Exposure to Guidewire Cloud implementations and modernisation programs.
• Exposure to AI-assisted test automation, self-healing frameworks and test optimisation approaches.
• Knowledge of API contract design and maintenance, APIs at scale and API best practices.
• Understanding of reusability and resilience principles within distributed systems.
• Exposure to user story creation, stakeholder management, Jira, Confluence, DB2 or ITSM practices.
• Exposure to insurance or banking environments.
