The opportunity

Due to increased growth we currently have opportunities to join our health and human services focussed Government and Public Sector team, across our Manager and Senior Manager ranks. We’re looking for passionate and ambitious professionals with various levels of skills and experience - from commencing an actuarial or data science career, to being a nearly qualified actuary or experienced data scientist with quantitative problem-solving skills, who are interested in building a better working world at EY.

 

These positions are available across Australia – in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, where you’ll get to work alongside other equally passionate sector specialists and enjoy high quality coaching and mentoring to help grow and accelerate your career. About our team

Our multi-disciplinary team consults on a range of client engagements from evidence-based system design to costing and pricing to advanced analytical and predictive modelling and evaluation of program outcomes. We are focussed on the future of our health, human services, aged care and disability systems and sit within Actuarial Services, Business Consulting service line. This means that you’ll use your technical quantitative, advanced analytics and/or actuarial skills with your soft skills to consult on client engagements and internal projects. You will play an important part in actively establishing internal and external professional relationships, whilst also helping to identify potential business opportunities for EY, amongst our existing engagements. You will work with a range of professionals from clinical, human centred design and strategy backgrounds to innovate end to end solutions that make a real difference to Australians and New Zealanders.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Participate and (as a Senior Manager) lead proposal development across specific focus accounts
  • Ability to build deep relationships across multiple levels within Federal and jurisdictional government, health, human services and social sectors
  • Develop and maintain contact with stakeholders (internal and external) to organise and lead proposal and engagement teams
  • Work with a range of stakeholders across a diverse range of projects, including supporting government with system transformation and analytics supporting operations
  • Support clients in government, health, human services and social sectors to gain fresh insights to quantify their risk and improve their performance
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams, valuing and interpreting other subject matter expertise to build new and practical solutions for our clients.
  • Interpret results from analysis to bring to light the issues that truly matter.
  • You will be part of multi-disciplinary teams to effect the implementation of new models of care, funding, evaluation, and monitoring, as well as participating in the innovation of new solutions

 

Skills and attributes for success
 

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical or other quantitative backgrounds with modelling and coding experience (e.g. data science, statistics, physics)
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, and translate technical jargon for a wider audience
  • Team management and development experience, leadership skills and demonstrated success in mentoring junior staff
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing complex projects that great outcomes and lead to ongoing engagements
  • Superior stakeholder management skills with the ability to credibly communicate, negotiate and influence strategic outcomes at senior levels
  • Demonstrated ability to be successful in a fast paced, complex, matrixed environment
  • A consulting mindset, comfortable navigating through periods of ambiguity and change, and can effectively manage competing priorities
  • Australian citizens are preferred, as Security Clearance is required on client sites

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • A degree in actuarial studies, mathematics, science, health economics or similar quantitative discipline
  • Prior experience in health or human services will be viewed positively
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g. AIAA, FIAA, CERA, CFA) which you have completed or are working towards will be viewed very positively
