Partnership Tax Assistant Director

The opportunity
EY is seeking a tax professional in the internal tax department of EY. You will be responsible for state tax planning for the firm including researching state and local tax law changes and applying them to EY and related entities. You will assist in the preparation of state and local income tax returns and the federal and state K-1 compliance and planning process. You will be expected to analyze information thoroughly and accurately and prepare practical and creative approaches to tax issues, in addition to making informed decisions involving complex issues, using sound judgment.
Your key responsibilities
- Perform annual state and local tax research in advance of compliance season as well as monitor state and local law changes throughout the year working closely with our state and local tax advisors.
- Apply an in-depth understanding of complex tax concepts and tax knowledge to internal and external situations affecting EY's partners
- Assist in developing tax planning strategies that reduce the overall tax costs to the firm
- Identify tax issues, and propose solutions
- Work with team members and manage direct staff, helping to achieve team goals
- Take ownership for day-to-day compliance
- Discuss research and technical determinations with supervisors, for input and further consideration
- Develop your team, and provide regular feedback
- Manage Staff through multiple projects
Skills and attributes for success
This position will be partly responsible for state and local research and planning. As such, day to day decisions will be related to analysis and understanding of new and existing tax law, and its application to EY operations. The position will work closely with other team members and will have day to day interaction with more junior members of the tax team.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Bachelor's degree, with emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Approximately 7 + years relevant tax consulting experience, or equivalent experience in business or industry.
- Broad exposure to state and federal income taxation, as well as worldwide tax issues
- Excellent managerial, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
- Proficient knowledge of state and local partnership taxation from both a planning and compliance standpoint.
- Strong research skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent presentation skills, with an ability to think and answer tax technical questions.
- Competent at training staff.
- Excellent managerial, organizational skills.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Excellent excel skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Advanced degree in Tax or Law highly desirable.
- CPA or other relevant certification.

- We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $103,700 to $193,900. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $124,400 to $220,400. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
