The opportunity
As part of our Caribbean Talent Hub (CTH) team, you'll contribute to the business enablement functions that help EY teams deliver exceptional client service, drive growth, and operate effectively. We are seeking an Accountant for our Trinidad office who will bring strong accounting and financial reporting knowledge and utilizes sound professional judgment to complete assignments, resolve issues, and support the efficient operation of the finance function with the team.
Your key responsibilities
- Perform general accounting activities, including the preparation and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with accounting standards and firm policies.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and supporting schedules.
- Generate Technology cost reports and prepare accrual journals as required.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, retirements, transfers, depreciation calculations, and other changes.
- Assist with the preparation of Green Fund Levy, Corporation Tax, VAT returns, and other statutory filings.
- Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations and follow up on outstanding reconciling items.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules and account reconciliations for review.
- Assist in preparing foreign exchange (FX) revaluation reports and related analyses.
- Support the budgeting process by compiling data and preparing schedules for depreciation and operating expenditure budgets.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding items for resolution.
- Assist with the preparation of cash flow reports and support cash flow forecasting activities.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules and providing supporting documentation.
- Identify and escalate discrepancies, process issues, or control gaps to management.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy within the Finance function.
- Perform other accounting, administrative, and ad hoc duties as assigned.
Skills and attributes for success
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (minimum ACCA Level 2 or equivalent) or be actively pursuing completion.
- Approximately 2-4 years' experience in an accounting, finance, or business support role.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and taxation requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting or ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and numerical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills.
