Tax - Indirect Tax - Sales and Use - Staff

Will you shape the future or will the future shape you?

The opportunity

Our tax function is constantly evolving, and it’s here you’ll find everything you need to grow as we do. It’s all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.  It’s fair to say there’s no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Staff – so you’re likely to spend your time on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities and tasks. Whatever you’re working on, our clients will turn to you for up-to-the-minute tax advice they can always rely on. To make that happen, you’ll be working in a highly collaborative culture, where listening to and sharing information with colleagues is an essential part of the role.

You’ll help organizations navigate evolving indirect tax requirements—advising on regulatory changes, enabling efficient compliance and reporting, and elevating how clients manage indirect taxes across the entire lifecycle. You’ll contribute to strategies, operating models, and technology-enabled processes that improve efficiency, reduce exposure, and uncover opportunities for credits and refund recovery.

Key points

  • Advise on indirect tax regulatory changes and compliance/reporting needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies, operating models, and compliance frameworks.
  • Identify and help realize optimization opportunities, credits/refunds, and exposure reduction.

Your key responsibilities

In this client-facing, billable role, you will define and execute deliverables (the core of the job), actively participate in daily client working sessions as a workstream member, and support our pursuit of new opportunities and quality outcomes. You’ll submit required data for engagement economics, contribute to solution development, and collaborate in hybrid settings. Travel is required regularly as needed by the client; hiring teams may specify location.

You will also be involved in the following:

  • Analyzing an evolving portfolio of complex tax operations to provide meaningful business insights
  • Identifying potential opportunities and risks and communicating these to our clients
  • Learning and researching current market trends, to maintain your credibility as a trusted advisor
  • Developing clear, intelligent plans and approaches to improve our clients’ tax activities
  • Researching our clients’ business operations and building long-lasting relationships to tailor your advice to their specific needs
  • Participating on a motivated team of professionals

Analytical/decision-making focus

  • Apply discretion using general guidelines to interpret unusual circumstances.
  • Work on problems of moderate to diverse scope where data analysis is required.
  • Select appropriate methods and techniques to obtain solutions.

Skills and attributes for success

You’ll make your mark by contributing to the delivery of processes and projects, meeting local performance objectives (client service, quality and risk management, sales growth, solution development, teaming), and communicating with impact in daily client interactions—while learning rapidly and exercising sound judgment.

  • Contribute agreed activities; research and present insights that inform recommendations.
  • Be accountable for your own deliverables and targets impacting the immediate team.
  • Meet locally set performance objectives and metrics across service, quality/risk, sales, and teaming.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods/techniques; analyze diverse data sets to solve problems.
  • Collaborate effectively in hybrid settings and client working sessions.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
  • Experience in sales and use tax processes, concepts and tools.
  • At least one year working in a professional services or tax organization.
  • Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
  • The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
  • Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.
  • Proficiency in indirect tax refund and recovery review.
  • Strength in tax planning and optimization.
  • Knowledge of audit quality and remediation techniques.
  • Focus on process improvement and optimization.
  • Capability in operating model design and analysis.
  • Familiarity with credit modelling.
  • Attention to data quality.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and standards.
  • Competence in risk mitigation.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Aptitude for application and tool analysis.
  • Awareness of sustainability drivers and mega trends.
  • Strength in building and managing relationships.
  • Commitment to client trust and value.
  • Clear, impactful communication.
  • Complex problem-solving ability.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Drive for outcomes.
  • Learning agility.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or the ability to sit for a state bar
  • Experience operating as a workstream member with daily client interaction.
  • Comfort working in billable, deliverable-focused environments.
  • Exposure to supporting RFP responses and identifying add-on service opportunities.
  • Familiarity with submitting data for engagement economics.

We value curious, analytical problem-solvers who collaborate seamlessly in hybrid settings, communicate with impact, and bring sound judgment to diverse data-driven challenges.
