Digital Asset Risk and Control Specialist
The opportunity
We are looking for a Manager to join our Oceania Technology Risk team, with the purpose of increasing our team’s ability to support a growing need to provide both assurance and non-assurance procedures over digital asset product offerings. This opportunity is offered on a flexible full-time basis at any of EY’s offices across Australia. We would be particularly stoked to have women apply for this role.
You will work within the Digital Asset team to help our clients who are adopting blockchains, investing in digital assets, building platform services such as exchanges and custody solutions, and Stablecoin issuers. Your role will be to enhance their security posture, mature their risk and controls framework in line with emerging regulation, leading practices and industry frameworks. You will work across a spectrum of fintech, crypto natives, regulated financial institutions and traditional industries who are adopting the technology across their business operations.
This role can be performed from any of our EY offices across Australia. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.
Your key responsibilities
This is an exciting period in the adoption of the technology with incoming regulation set to provide certainty for companies who’ve been sitting on the sidelines. You will have the opportunity to build on your strong Risk and Control skills and enthusiasm for digital assets by working with some of the most innovative companies and vendors within Oceania and globally through EY’s global blockchain network. You will:
- Help clients identify, assess, and manage technology, operational, and regulatory risks arising from blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) implementations. Your primary focus will be on designing and evaluating control frameworks, governance models, and risk mitigation strategies for digital asset products
- Translate blockchain security risks into business, regulatory, and operational impacts for executive stakeholders.
- Align blockchain implementations with regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, SOC 2, financial services regulations).
- Support clients with custody, digital asset governance, and operational resilience models.
- Contribute to internal and client-facing security policies, standards, and control frameworks.
- Lead client workshops, system reviews, process walkthroughs and executive briefings.
- Support proposal development, solution shaping, and delivery oversight.
- Mentor junior consultants and contribute to firm-wide blockchain risk and control capability development.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong background in security architecture (application, cloud, or infrastructure).
- Hands-on experience with EVM based blockchain protocols.
- Experience configuring and working with major digital asset custody platform architectures, such as MPC, Multi-Sig, HSM
- Experience developing or performing security audits on Smart Contracts and virtual machines (Solidity / EVM preferred).
- Experiencing hardening wallets, custody models, and key management systems (KMS, HSMs).
- Experience securing cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) in blockchain contexts.
- Knowledge of development tools within the EVM stack (Solidity, Web3.js, JS, Truffle/Hardhat, etc).
- A strong academic record, including a degree (preferably a master’s degree) focussed on technology, i.e., Computer Science, Software Engineer, etc.
