Senior Associate, Commodities Markets (based in India)
The opportunity
Our Commodity Markets team in EY focuses on addressing our client’s agenda in the commodity trading industry. This team, is located in our Strategy and Transactions, Transaction Diligence practice which covers Strategy, Commercial Due Diligence, Integration/divestments and Value Creation. This high-performing team has grown rapidly, and is active in the market with a number of deep focus accounts in the metals and mining industry and with oil trading and refining companies in the region.

As a part of our ASEAN delivery team, you will have the opportunity work closely with our Singapore Commodity Markets team. You will work collaboratively with other like-minded commodity specialists, and will have the chance to work and travel across the ASEAN region.
Your key responsibilities
- Performing valuation of physical commodity and financial derivative positions for our commodity clients;
- Conducting reviews and analysis of trading control, financial, and operational risks in various commodity trading organizations;
- Support in preparing reports and other client deliverables;
- Support business development initiatives, including the preparation and presentation of proposals;
- Building and maintaining client relationships before, during and after engagements;
- Working closely with Partners and staff on client management, practice and business development activities;
- Supporting existing and new client engagements related to trading digitalization and finance transformation;
Skills and attributes for success
- You will have hands-on experience with the following functional skillsets:
- Sustainability experience, including experience in quantifying scope 1, 2, and/or 3 emissions, sustainability reporting and/or risk management/trading in emerging commodity markets (such as carbon, liberalization of electricity markets, etc.)
- Trading/Treasury/Finance controls experience, including SOX reporting, process improvement for trading businesses, or treasury and finance functions.
- ETRM/Systems experience, including gathering, assessment, development and documentation of business requirements, supporting ETRM/Systems implementations, Commodity and credit data management or experience with Trading Compliance/Surveillance systems.
- Experience in energy markets (crude oil, gas/LNG, coal, iron ore, refined oil products, power, carbon/emissions, etc.) or other equivalent commodity markets.
- Diligent, takes a proactive approach, and a strong drive to excel professionally;
- Ability to develop excellent client relationships;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced professional services environment and cope with undefined situations;
- Strong project management skills and commitment to the delivery good quality work;
- Prior experience of:
- Business strategy or management consulting;
- Enterprise Risk Management;
- External audit or financial reporting in commodity firms;
- Commodity trading and risk management technologies;
- Commodity, Interest rate, Forex and Derivative operations;
- Exposure assessment, measurement and management;
- Commodity Desk and Market Risk Reviews;
- CTRM/ETRM implementation and support;
- Process & Control designs/improvements;
- Commodity compliance and regulation;
- Hedge Accounting, Valuations and Quantitative Advisory;
- Trade Surveillance related advisory;
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A relevant Bachelor's degree, MBA or other equivalent qualifications (Accounting & Finance, Commodities, Engineering, etc.)
- Accounting & Finance certifications (CPA, CA or equivalent) preferred, but not essential
- Expertise in Trading and related aspects (including Risks, Controls, Operating Model Set Up and Systems selection and implementation, Strategy and Operations).
- At least 4-6 years of experience as a Commodities Trading Specialist and of leading teams
- Work experience in strategy, operations, or large-scale transformation
- Business development and project delivery experience
- Excellent industry network
- Travel to client locations across ASEAN and global markets as necessary
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Positive working attitude and passion about taking challenging tasks
- Experience gained within another large professional services organization
- Established networking skills in a relevant industry
- Experience in front- (Trading, Sales, Marketing, Structuring, etc.), middle- (Risk, Product Control, etc.) or back-office (Finance Operations, Physical Operations, etc.) roles in commodity firms or financial services firms
