The opportunity

We’re looking for SMRs at Senior rank with expertise in Business Analysis/Operational Technology/Control Systems (ADMS, OMS, DERMS, AMI, SCADA) to join the P&U Sector group of GDS Consulting Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a leading firm whilst being instrumental in the growth of a new service offering.

Your key responsibilities 

• Design and implement Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) solutions as a technology platform working alongside Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS).
• Lead the design and development of automatic solutions for coordination and control of Distributed Energy Resources to deliver active and reactive power services and support constraint management for System Operators.
• Develop technical routes to market for DER participation in DSO and TSO markets and lead technical development activities related to new products and services.
• Manage day‑to‑day client projects, stakeholders and workstreams by providing both technical and project management expertise.
• Standardise operational power system grid security processes and automate these processes within DERMS.
• Assess the evolution and impact of DSO operational control systems for large‑scale DER deployment, grid monitoring and control.
• Advise on the delivery of digital grid programmes and projects, including designing integrated DERMS solutions, developing detailed activity, resource and cost plans, supporting procurement and evaluation of OT products, producing tender and procurement documentation, supporting bids and managing contracts.
• Design end‑to‑end business processes for utility operations and design system integration interfaces including middleware, standards, patterns and message definitions.
• Plan and manage development and delivery of integration interfaces with systems such as GIS, SCADA and market platforms, and manage delivery of utility and OT data engineering services including data assessment, collection, migration and validation.

Skills and attributes for success

• Strong expertise in DERMS architecture and integration with ADMS, SCADA and DER control systems.
• Deep understanding of power system operations and DERMS algorithms.
• Proven ability to design scalable and resilient DERMS solutions.
• Hands‑on experience delivering DERMS and OT projects in Power & Utilities.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder communication skills.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• Relevant experience in OT/CS (ADMS, OMS, DERMS, AMI, SCADA) Implementation/Technical advisory with total experience between 6 to 10 years (for Senior)
• Deep understanding of DERMS algorithms such as load flow, forecasting and optimisation.
• Strong expertise in DERMS architecture and integration with ADMS, RTUs and DER control systems.
• Experience designing and implementing large‑scale DERMS solutions under network constraints.
• Strong business analysis skills
• Strong command over business process design

Additionally, good to have

• Exposure to DERMS configuration and operations for large‑scale DER integration in DSO and TSO environments.
• Knowledge of integration interfaces between DERMS, ADMS, SCADA, MMS and DER control systems.
• Experience with DERMS network analysis functions including load flow, forecasting and optimisation.
• Understanding of DER communication protocols and data quality for secure monitoring and control.

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Good Business Writing skills
• Good Communication skills
• Maintaining end-to-end accountability and expectations for customer satisfaction and overall delivery excellence
• Prioritize deliveries in conjunction with implementation team
• Adopt a proactive, logical and organized approach to problem resolution
• Any relevant product/platform certification
