Job Description

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years SQL and DB2 database design, maintenance & management
  • Administering database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation
  • Experience in technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environments.
  • Experience in database migration and conversion, preferably SQL to DB2
  • DB2 Experience


Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environments;
  • Reviewing project requests and determining rough order of magnitude estimate of time and cost required to accomplish scope;
  • Administering database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation;
  • Maintaining database dictionaries and documents Job Control Language (JCL), SQL, Perl and shell scripts and batch processes.
  • Command line processing
  • Reading, writing, executing, troubleshooting user scripts - Realistic, practical, real world database administration skills/experience -Experience, from a database perspective, dealing with Websphere Application Sever, HTTP Server, MQSeries and Cognos
  • Database Installation and Configuration: Installing and configuring Db2 database software on servers.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitoring and optimizing database performance to ensure efficient operation.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implementing and testing backup and recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity.
  • Security Management: Managing user access and ensuring database security through proper authentication and authorization processes.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving database-related issues, including errors, performance bottlenecks, and connectivity problems.
  • Database Design: Collaborating with developers to design and implement database structures that meet application requirements.
  • Patch and Version Management: Applying patches and updates to keep the database system current and secure.
  • Capacity Planning: Estimating future database growth and planning for additional capacity as needed.
  • Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Facilitate and lead requirements gathering workshops with the ability to identify and analyze business needs
  • Develop gap analysis of current/desired business process and system capabilities
  • Design solutions incorporating out-of-box functionality and/or collaborative solution design with technical teams for custom functionality
  • Identify areas of system optimization based on business processes
  • Develop system reporting solutions based on business needs (in the form of Queries, Inboxes, KPIs and Dataspys)
  • Create, validate, execute and document test cases " Assist in the development of end-user training and reference materials
  • Perform or assist in end-user training " Assist in implementation go-live and post-go-live activities
  • Support requests from users to research system problems or errors, and to assist in their resolution
  • Provide technical evaluation of proposed technical solutions and provides technical direction for the development, design, and systems integration work including mobile

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years hands on database administration experience with IBM DB2
  • A minimum of 5-10 years SQL and DB2 database design, maintenance & management
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project 
  • Ability to modify/adapt systems, applications, and programs to meet business requirements. 
  • Understanding of complex relational database organization, design, and functionality
  • Experience in desktop / mobile computer support and troubleshooting software related problems
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skill in relating technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to independently set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, a self-starter 
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
