The Opportunity
We are looking for a professional who will be responsible for ensuring timely, high-quality delivery in line with project requirements for our FAAS team and possess strong investment accounting knowledge. The role requires to lead and manage the investment accounting function for accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and operational excellence. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to drive process improvements while maintaining client satisfaction.
Your Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Strong technical understanding of investment accounting, including fixed income securities, derivatives, amortization, securitization, and other complex investment products.
- Lead and review monthly reconciliation of Investment accounting balances under both STAT and GAAP, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Support and review quarter-end and year-end financial reporting, including statutory filings such as Schedules BA, D and related disclosures.
- Ensure timely delivery of reporting packs in line with close timelines and audit requirements
- Identify and escalate complex technical accounting matters and support resolution.
- Experience with portfolio accounting and management systems.
Reconciliation & Controls:
- Review month-end and quarter-end reconciliations, ensuring all balances are accurate and fully supported.
- Investigate and resolve variances across sub-ledgers, custodial data, and general ledger.
- Maintain strong control over investment accounting processes, ensuring alignment with established control frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and escalate key control, valuation, and reporting risks, and support remediation efforts.
- Strengthen governance through robust documentation and adherence to control procedures.
Technical Accounting:
- Apply appropriate GAAP accounting treatments (fair value option, equity method, cost/measurement alternative).
- Ensure compliance with NAIC statutory guidelines for Schedule BA reporting.
- Review classification of investments into appropriate accounting categories.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Review and interpret flux analysis, variance analysis, and trend reporting to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Support preparation of management reporting packs and disclosures.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a key point of contact for investment accounting queries, audits, and client interactions.
- Coordinate with internal teams, auditors, and clients to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Manage expectations of senior stakeholders and clients by providing clear updates, resolving escalations proactively, and driving effective decision-making on complex issues.
Process Improvement & Automation:
- Identify opportunities to automate reconciliation and reporting processes (Excel, tools, agents).
- Identify operational bottlenecks and propose automation or efficiency enhancements to streamline accounting and reporting processes.
- Drive standardization and improve data quality and efficiency
- Review documents, processes, controls, SOPs, flow charts, Checklists etc.
- Lead change initiatives and process redesign efforts to improve scalability, strengthen controls, and enhance the overall efficiency of the investment accounting function.
Team Leadership:
- Review work of team members handling Investment accounting team.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members.
- Ensure adherence to timelines and quality standards.
- Coach and mentor team members, delegate responsibilities effectively, and build team capability through structured development and performance management.
Client Service Excellence:
- Deliver high-quality client service by managing daily project activities, addressing requests promptly, and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Own engagement delivery by balancing quality, timeliness, stakeholder expectations, and continuous service improvement across the end-to-end process.
- Application of Accounting Standards & Firm Policies:
- Demonstrate a good understanding of accounting concepts; stay informed of professional standards and firm policies (e.g., guidelines of the EY FAAS Policy Manual); and effectively apply this knowledge to moderately difficult and/or complex client situation.
Skills and attributes for success
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong understanding of investment accounting in insurance.
- Hands-on experience with Other Invested Assets / Schedule BA reporting.
- Knowledge of US GAAP and NAIC STAT reporting requirements.
- Analytical Skills:
- Ability to perform detailed reconciliations, flux analysis, and root cause analysis.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
- Process & Control Orientation:
- Experience in month-end close, reconciliations, and control frameworks.
- Ability to identify control gaps and implement improvements.
- Advanced Excel Skills:
- Proficiency in PivotTables, reconciliations, data validation, and large dataset handling.
- Experience with cross-file comparisons and automation tools.
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Ability to lead a team, review work, and ensure deadlines.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management:
- Ability to communicate complex accounting topics clearly and professionally.
- Experience working with global stakeholders and auditors.
- Process Improvement Mindset:
- Proactive in identifying efficiency improvements and automation opportunities.
- Comfortable working on transformational initiatives.
- Ability and comfort level in researching client inquires and emerging issues, including regulations, industry practices, and modern technologies.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities during close cycles.
- Strong focus on meeting strict reporting timelines.

- Strong strategic thinking and decision-making ability, with the capability to manage complex accounting judgments and business priorities.

- Strong client and engagement management skills, with accountability for delivery excellence, governance, and continuous improvement.
Ideally, you’ll also
- Proficiency in MS - Excel, MS - Office, Ms Power Query.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel on short notice, as necessary.
- Effective communication, Interpersonal, Analytical Skills & highly proactive in approach
What we look for
- CA, ACCA (UK), CPA, or other relevant qualification
- 7-12 years relevant experience including experience in Investment accounting.
