The opportunity
As the UX Research Lead, you plan and execute user experience research for digital products and experiences, from concept to implementation. You inform strategic design decisions while solving client business challenges and being the trusted voice for users across a range of industries.

 

Your key responsibilities
You bring curiosity, empathy, and problem-solving skills to help us create digital experiences for clients based on your strategic insights from primary research with end-users. Within your role, you will:

  • Draft, plan, and lead generative and evaluative user research, from recruitment, data-gathering, and analysis through the dissemination of insights. 
  • Manage research project deliverables and client expectations, provide user-centric strategic insights to project teams, and ensure that the user's voice is integrated into the team's delivery approach.
  • Communicate tactical and strategic findings efficiently and effectively with internal stakeholders and external client teams.
  • Collaborate with designers and project teams to support the translation of strategic research insights into tactical user experience design.
  • Facilitate brainstorming, critiques, and other collaborative sessions with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Help project and UX research teams run efficiently to ensure company growth and profitability.
  • Mentor other UX researchers; understand their skill sets, strengths, and areas for improvement. Evaluate work standards; contribute to the annual performance reviews.
  • Develop your reputation as a research thought leader by hosting learning sessions, publishing articles, and speaking at conferences.
  • Help attract, hire, and onboard the best research talent.
  • Contribute to the sales process and help to inform proposals and project scopes with recommended design research approaches.

You are a thinker and a doer with a relentless sense of curiosity and an acceptance that you do not have all the answers. You are a skilled negotiator who can lead project teams while managing client expectations, contribute to our business's development through the sales process, and support change and improvements within the studio. You can move the team forward with uncertain requirements and navigate ambiguous environments.


To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction or another related field (e.g., human factors, information studies, communication, psychology, sociology, computer science)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience conducting user experience research and analysis.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with an interest in conference-level presentations.
  • Expertise in data-gathering and analysis techniques across qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g., usability testing, heuristic assessments, interviews, comparative/competitive analysis, observations) with identified areas of focus (e.g., accessibility, participatory design techniques, statistical analyses).
  • A willingness to travel to an EY office or client site. In our hybrid model, you choose where you work (home, an EY office, or a client site), but we anticipate that our team will maintain a willingness to travel to an EY office or client site when safe and reasonable to do so. We follow all local regulations and CDC guidance related to travel restrictions amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Master's degree in human-computer interaction or another related field.
  • Writing, publishing, and conference-level presentation experience.
