Financial Services - Data Center Infrastructure & Migration - Tech Consulting - Manager - NYC
Job description
At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.
We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go. Join EY and help to build a better working world.
The opportunity
We are seeking a manager who has led complex data center (including co-lo) and Cloud infrastructure transformation or migration programs in financial services or a similarly controlled environment. The individual must understand the infrastructure stack, the information required to move business-critical workloads safely, and the governance needed to coordinate facilities, network, compute, storage, applications, cyber, recovery and operations. This is not a general PMO position.
The work is focused primarily on banking, capital markets, insurance and payments clients. Selected assignments may include other highly regulated or mission-critical organizations where resilience, control, and disciplined execution are central to the client's agenda.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead assessment of data center and Cloud hosted compute, virtualization, storage, network, load balancing, DNS/IPAM, backup, recovery, monitoring, security, platform and support dependencies.
- Define or validate hosting, workload-placement, consolidation, exit and migration strategies across enterprise-owned data centers, colocation and cloud environments.
- Direct discovery, CMDB reconciliation, dependency mapping, disposition decisions, migration-wave design, and detailed cutover planning.
- Establish migration-factory and control-tower governance, including entry/exit criteria, wave plans, readiness evidence, RAID management, decision forums and executive reporting.
- Lead planning for virtualization, physical, platform, storage, network, database and application moves, including rollback and continuity requirements.
- Drive go/no-go decisions based on testing, connectivity, replication, security, observability, support coverage, recovery, business validation and change approvals.
- Oversee cutover command, escalation, validation, hypercare, transition to operations, exit and decommission tracking.
- Connect data center capacity, rack/room readiness, network availability and facility commissioning milestones to migration sequencing.
- Advise leaders on service continuity, operational resilience, recovery objectives, concentration risk, dependencies and trade-offs.
- Lead EY and client teams, economics, quality, methods, accelerators, proposals and market development.
Required experience and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related discipline.
- At least 7 years of experience in enterprise infrastructure, data center or Cloud transformation, migrations, operations, resiliency or technology consulting.
- Leadership on at least one complex Cloud or data center consolidation, exit, colocation move or infrastructure migration involving business-critical workloads.
- Strong working knowledge across multiple infrastructure domains and the ability to identify cross-stack dependencies and operational risks.
- Ownership of migration governance, wave planning, readiness, cutover, rollback, hypercare and transition to operations.
- Public-cloud migration experience is relevant and is a substitute for data center infrastructure migration, consolidation and exit experience although experience with both is preferred
- Experience communicating with senior technology, risk, business and operations stakeholders in a controlled change environment.
Required software and technical tooling
- Hands-on experience using ServiceNow CMDB/ITSM/ITOM, BMC Helix or equivalent to validate configuration data, service relationships, change records, incidents and ownership.
- Practical use of discovery and dependency data from ServiceNow Discovery/Service Mapping, Device42, BMC Discovery, Dynatrace, AppDynamics or equivalent, including reconciliation and data limitations.
- Working knowledge of VMware vCenter and virtualization migration concepts; VMware HCX, vMotion/Live Migration or equivalent experience is preferred where applicable.
- Experience with Azure Migrate, AWS Migration Hub/Application Discovery Service or equivalent is preferred but does not replace data center migration experience.
- Applied use of Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Microsoft Project or Smartsheet to manage waves, dependencies, change, defects, readiness and cutover actions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; working use of Visio or equivalent for dependency, wave, network or operating-model views. Power BI is preferred for control-tower reporting.
- Exposure to monitoring/observability, backup/recovery, IPAM/DNS, network management and automation tooling sufficient to evaluate readiness and coordinate specialists.
AI-enabled delivery
- Experience applying Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot or comparable enterprise AI tools to support infrastructure analysis, dependency review, migration planning, documentation, reporting, testing support or workflow automation is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate validation, traceability, confidentiality controls, and professional judgment when using AI-generated outputs in a regulated environment.
Preferred experience
- Banking, capital markets, insurance or payments infrastructure with stringent availability, latency, recovery or change-control requirements.
- Mainframe and distributed infrastructure, storage replication, network segmentation, load balancing, database, or middleware migration.
- Operational resilience, business continuity, disaster recovery, cyber recovery, third-party risk or regulatory remediation.
- Colocation transition coordinated with facility build, commissioning, rack integration and circuit delivery.
- Relevant credentials such as PMP, ITIL, SAFe, Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or infrastructure architecture certifications are preferred but not required.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure and the dependencies between applications, platforms, facilities, and operations.
- Ability to manage risk and service continuity within large-scale migration and modernization programs.
- Ability to translate technical findings into practical decisions for business and technology stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating multiple workstreams, teams and vendors in controlled environments.
- Clear stakeholder management and communication across technical, operational, and executive audiences.
- Practical problem-solving skills and sound delivery judgment in complex migration environments.
