AI Engineering, Senior Manager, Consultant

Power & Utilities Sector

At EY, we are at the forefront of guiding our clients through the complexities of digital transformation within the Power & Utilities sector. Our mission is to leverage the power of data, AI, and emerging GenAI and Agentic AI capabilities to drive innovation, improve reliability and resiliency, modernize operations, and enhance customer and regulatory outcomes for our clients.

Our services help utilities redefine their strategies around data and AI, implement advanced technologies, and stay ahead of industry trends related to grid modernization, energy transition, distributed energy resources (DER), operational excellence, and evolving regulatory expectations.

The opportunity

EY is making significant investments in its AI & Data practice serving the Power & Utilities sector. In this role, you will help clients define their AI strategic vision and execute that vision to capitalize on future opportunities, scale for growth, and mitigate risk in highly regulated environments.

You will bring deep industry insight and advanced knowledge of utility business drivers—safety, reliability, affordability, resiliency, compliance, and customer experience—to help clients navigate modern data management, AI platforms, cloud analytics, AI risk management, and rapidly evolving AI technologies.

You will also play a key role in developing EY AI offerings, scaling solution assets, contributing to go-to-market strategies, and supporting thought leadership efforts. This role offers high visibility, strong growth trajectory, and opportunities to develop the next generation of Power & Utilities AI leaders.

This position includes helping clients define and deploy Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI solutions—such as copilots, intelligent assistants, and workflow agents—that augment decision-making, automate knowledge work, and orchestrate end-to-end processes, while maintaining appropriate governance, human oversight, and auditability.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior Manager specializing in AI & Data for Power & Utilities, you will lead multidisciplinary teams and partner with electric, gas, and water utilities to design and deliver AI strategies and solutions aligned to operational and regulatory realities.

Your responsibilities include establishing AI strategies, governance and risk management frameworks, AI operating models, defining solution architectures, and overseeing the engineering and scaling of AI, GenAI, and Agentic AI capabilities within client environments. You will ensure all solutions comply with regulatory, security, and enterprise standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading complex client engagements and translating strategic objectives into actionable AI and data roadmaps across generation, transmission, distribution, gas operations, and customer functions

  • Guiding clients through AI governance, Responsible AI, model risk management, and operating model design suited for regulated environments
  • Serving as a sector and technology leader across AI, data platforms, GenAI, and Agentic AI use cases relevant to Power & Utilities
  • Leading business development activities, including solution positioning, proposal development, and pursuit leadership
  • Driving development of EY AI delivery assets, accelerators, and reusable frameworks for AI Engineering, MLOps, LLMOps, observability, and governance

Representative Power & Utilities AI, GenAI, and Agentic AI focus areas may include:

  • Asset health, risk, and predictive maintenance for electric and gas infrastructure
  • Outage prediction, storm response decision support, and restoration optimization
  • Vegetation management analytics and inspection prioritization
  • Grid and load forecasting, including DER, EV, and demand response impacts
  • Capital planning analytics and risk-based investment prioritization
  • Customer operations optimization and contact center copilots
  • Regulatory analytics, including data request response and filing support
  • Field workforce enablement using technician copilots and knowledge assistants
  • Agentic AI workflows that orchestrate multi-step processes across utility systems with human-in-the-loop controls

Skills and attributes for success

  • Clear vision for how Power & Utilities will evolve through digital transformation and AI
  • Strong expertise in designing and operationalizing responsible, explainable, and controlled AI in regulated environments
  • Deep understanding of utility operations, asset lifecycles, safety culture, capital programs, and regulatory expectations
  • Ability to lead large-scale engagements while building trusted executive relationships
  • Strong technical fluency across AI, data, analytics, and GenAI patterns within enterprise environments
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into business and operational value for executive and regulator-facing audiences

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A Bachelor’s degree required (4-year degree).
  • 8–10 years of experience delivering AI, data, analytics, and GenAI solutions, ideally within Power & Utilities or other asset-intensive regulated industries
  • 8–10 years of professional consulting experience delivering technology-enabled transformation programs
  • Strong experience with AI engineering, data platforms, and scalable cloud-based analytics solutions
  • Experience working with Agile delivery models
  • Experience defining and implementing AI governance, lifecycle management, monitoring, and controls
  • Hands-on familiarity with GenAI architectures such as retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), orchestration frameworks, and agent-based solutions
  • Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, statistics, or a related field
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale AI, data, or cloud transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with utility systems and data sources such as AMI, OMS, SCADA, GIS, EAM, CIS, and work management platforms
  • Knowledge of utility cybersecurity, privacy, and compliance considerations impacting AI and GenAI deployments
  • Experience building reusable delivery assets and go-to-market offerings in a consulting environment
  • Experience working with diverse teams to deliver complex solutions

What We Look For

We are seeking leaders with a passion for applying AI responsibly to solve complex Power & Utilities challenges. Top candidates bring a balance of innovation and discipline, combining deep technical capability with a strong understanding of safety, reliability, and regulatory rigor.
