The opportunity

 

The EY Malta Assurance Department specialises in delivering high quality and efficient audit and advisory services to a portfolio of clients, understanding the enterprise-wide view of business risk and how this risk can be effectively managed. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to evaluate business processes and controls, and advanced technology in knowledge sharing.

 

Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Advising clients on their reserving processes and how they can be improved;
  • Producing reporting that will be included in management reports in respect of product profitability and performance of client’s lines of business;
  • Assisting clients to assess the quality of the organization’s data and management information that is used as inputs in the reserving models;
  • Advising clients involved in mergers and acquisitions including purchase of portfolios or insurance business in run-offs;
  • Assisting clients in the quarterly and annual Solvency II reporting, including the derivation of the BEL;
  • Independent calculation of technical provisions in line with the local GAAP for clients subcontracting their reserving process;
  • Measuring the insurance contract liabilities in line with the requirements of IFRS 17.

 

Skills and attributes to success: 

 

 

  • Strong analytical and mathematical/statistical skills;
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills;
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to share knowledge;
  • Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiatives and commitment to assigned projects; 
  • Appetite for hands-on technical actuarial work;
  • Build client relationships, be able to understand their motivations, business needs and requirements.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • A degree and Fellowship from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or other internationally recognized professional actuarial association. Candidates with a degree and partial qualification (IFOA Associate) from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries may be considered;
  •  Successful track record in general/non-life insurance;
  • Experience in non-life pricing;
  • Experience in SQL, excel and ideally possessing programming experience.
