The opportunity
EY‑Parthenon’s Valuations & Financial Modelling team in Malta supports clients with technically robust valuation advice and high‑quality financial models used for financial reporting, regulatory, strategic and internal decision‑making purposes. Our work requires a strong grounding in valuation theory, accounting principles and financial analysis, combined with the ability to apply these rigorously to real‑world business situations.
We are seeking a Manager with deep technical expertise to lead valuation and modelling engagements, oversee complex analytical work, and act as a technical reference point within the team and for clients.
Your key responsibilities
As a Manager, you will be expected to:
- Lead and review business valuations for a range of purposes, including financial reporting, impairment testing, internal restructuring, strategic planning and shareholder matters
- Design, build and critically review complex financial models, including:
- Discounted cash flow (DCF) models
- Integrated three‑statement financial models
- Forecasting and budgeting models
- Scenario, sensitivity and stress‑testing models
- Apply valuation techniques in line with IVS, IFRS and relevant accounting and valuation guidance, including:
- Purchase price allocation support models
- Valuation of intangible assets
- Impairment testing under IAS 36
- Fair value measurement under IFRS 13
- Take responsibility for the technical quality and defensibility of valuation assumptions, inputs and conclusions
- Prepare, review and sign off on detailed valuation reports and technical memoranda, ensuring clarity, consistency and audit‑readiness
- Act as a key point of contact for audit teams, regulators and client finance teams on valuation and modelling matters
- Manage engagements end‑to‑end, including resourcing, timelines, budgets and risk management
- Coach, review and develop senior and junior team members, with a strong focus on technical upskilling and consistency of approach
- Build strong working relationships with senior clients, including influence, advice and support to key decision makers
- As part of your career development, you will: lead sales opportunities with senior team members and clients; lead preparing proposal documents and thought leadership, particularly in valuation‑driven and financial reporting‑related areas
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong technical judgement in valuation and financial modelling, with the ability to challenge assumptions and defend conclusions
- Advanced Excel modelling capability, with a disciplined and transparent approach to model structure and documentation
- Excellent understanding of financial statements, accounting standards and valuation drivers
- High level of attention to detail and comfort working with complex data sets
- Clear and structured communication style, particularly when explaining technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
- Proven experience managing and reviewing the work of others in a professional services environment
- Ability to operate effectively within the regulatory, audit and corporate environment
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline; OR
- A professional qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CPA or CFA (or significant progress towards qualification)
- Post‑qualification experience in:
- valuation and/or financial modelling, ideally within a professional services or advisory environment
- valuation methodologies, including DCF, market‑based approaches and asset‑specific valuations
- financial reporting‑related valuations (e.g. PPA support, impairments, intangibles)
- financial modelling, including building robust models from first principles
- Familiarity with commonly used financial data sources (e.g. Capital IQ, Bloomberg or similar) is an advantage
