The opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a growing and aspiring EY Actuarial team. We are more than just a conventional actuarial consultancy. We have a strong reputation in the local insurance market, as well as supporting the delivery of actuarial solutions of our broader European and Global actuarial network. We are looking for an experienced insurance actuary to join our actuarial team. 

This role will be an integral part of building out the team and delivering on our growth strategy in the actuarial space. You will have the opportunity to: 

  • Work  in  the  traditional  actuarial  areas,  such  as  reserving,  pricing  and  capital modelling, including: 
  1. Independent reserve review and calculation of Solvency II Technical Provisions
  2. and Standard Formula SCR;  
  3. Reviewing and/or advising clients on IFRS 17 reporting;
  4. Advising clients on their reserving processes and how they can be improved;
  5. Internal model parameterisation and validation;
  6. Product profitability and performance analysis. 

 

  • Deploy your skills in less traditional  areas, which may include projects covering analytics, business steering, capital optimisation and finance transformation. 
  • Provide due diligence and valuation support in insurance mergers and acquisitions, including purchase of portfolios or insurance business in run-offs; 
  • Assist clients operating in the local insurance market, but also the potential to work across  borders,  supporting  a  market  leading  actuarial  team  within  the  UK  and European insurance markets. 

Your key responsibilities 

  • Lead the technical delivery and reporting for projects, managing teams of actuarial
  • consultants and taking ownership of the overall project delivery. 
  • Drive discussions with client contacts and help to manage expectations of delivery,
  • content, timescales and cost. This may include presenting to clients at different levels, including senior executive and board levels. 
  • Go-to-market initiatives to help grow the local actuarial practice and service offerings, including the development of intellectual property to support sales/client interaction.
  • Organise the training and development of junior actuaries. 
  • Collaborate on non-actuarial led projects as a subject matter specialist. 

To qualify for the role you must:   

  • Be able to apply actuarial approaches through a commercial lens and tailor your experiences and knowledge to date to help our clients improve the way they operate;
  • Have  a  strong  academic  record,  including  a  degree  and  professional  actuarial
  • qualifications (IFoA or similar); 

Have in-depth experience of at least two of the following:   

  1. Claims reserving under different accounting bases
  2. Building or validating internal capital models
  3. Development or review of Solvency II technical provisions
  4. IFRS17 implementation
  5. Personal lines or specialty market pricing 
  • Be a strong team player and be able to work flexibly on different engagements;
  • Be able to build client relationships, by understanding their motivations, business  needs and requirements. 
  • Have experience in managing project teams and contributing to building a high performing and inclusive team working environment; 
  • Be an excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral. 

 

Strongly desirable but not essential:  

  • Experience working in the London market, or UK general insurance market.
  • Experience working in the local Malta insurance market.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software packages for reserving or capital modelling.
