We currently have an excellent career opportunity for a Tax Litigation Associate. EY’s global alliance of independent law firms cooperate with our offices worldwide to provide our clients with integrated, quality service. Our award-winning tax planning, counsel and litigation teams offer a powerful combination of legal knowledge, experience and national presence to help organizations successfully navigate the complexities of Canada’s tax laws. Your key responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior associates in responding to federal and provincial audits, strategically advising clients on various options and steps in resolving complex tax disputes.
  • Prepare and oversee the drafting of notices of objection and written representations to federal and provincial tax authorities.
  • Manage litigation efforts in resolving tax disputes, including court appeals, judicial review applications, and other administrative processes such as voluntary disclosures, taxpayer relief applications, ruling requests, and remission orders.
  • Provide expert legal opinions regarding the tax consequences of transactions and conduct post-transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk.
  • Develop and implement strategies for client acquisition and relationship management, contributing to the growth of the practice

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in income tax, sales tax, and other tax areas, with a strong focus on tax litigation.
  • Proven track record in managing complex tax litigation cases and a deep understanding of Canada’s income tax, sales tax, and other Canadian tax systems.
  • A member in good standing of the Law Society of your province of residence.
  • Proficiency in both French and English.
