EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives - BTI - team, is part of our Business Tax Services practice and specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, and capital investments as well as scientific research and experimental development – SRED.  We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science and technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in a variety of industries to help them maximize their tax benefits and achieve their business objectives. We’re looking for a professional with a software development or information technology background to take on the role of Senior Tax Staff and deliver advisory services to our clients in Quebec.

 

Opportunity:

 

As a Business Tax Incentives, IT Senior Tax Staff you will work with engagement leaders and a variety of clients from entrepreneurs to public corporations, to evaluate and prepare SRED claims. Leveraging your thorough understanding of web technologies and software architectures, you will work alongside a team of engineers and data scientists to provide value to clients by assessing the client's eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project. You will discuss new prototypes, innovative software architectures, improved algorithms, and new frameworks This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has a Computer Science degree and work experience in the field who wants to continue their career in technology with more exposure to the business and financial side of an organization.

 

 

Core elements of the role include

  • Working with engagement Managers and clients to ensure clients are provided with the most up to date legislative developments and direct funding programs
  • Meeting with clients and using your broad knowledge of current technologies to identify opportunities for claiming SRED in the fields of software development, cyber security, wireless networks, data analytics, defense, and robotics as well as AI. This includes assessing their eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project
  • Executing on a variety of corporate tax credit and incentive assignments including planning, compliance, and review with government authorities
  • Working collaboratively with internal financial experts to prepare robust and defensible claims
  • Coaching and mentoring tax staff to ensure accuracy and completeness of assignments
  • Communicating with internal colleagues and external stakeholders to balance a portfolio of clients and prioritize deadlines while maintaining exceptional client service
  • Demonstrating professionalism through a positive and cooperative approach and by maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • An MBA credential is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of web technologies, cloud computing, programming languages, and telecommunication technologies
  • Previous practical experience with the SRED program is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to think creatively and innovate on the spot solutions to client issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and deliver high quality work in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • This role is national in scope and will interact with clients and colleagues within and outside of the province of Quebec. Therefore, French-English bilingualism is required.
