Within the M&A group, we offer expertise in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, financing and valuations and advise clients on all aspects of strategic transaction and capital sourcing activities. Your key responsibilities:
As an Associate/Senior Associate (Manager), you will have the opportunity to be involved in the execution of the M&A process, from deal sourcing to closure. The role of an Associate/Senior Associate (Manager) within EY’s M&A group is challenging and fast paced, that requires dedication and a strong work ethic. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Manage the daily activities of an acquisition, divestiture, merger or financing assignment.
- Develop and review financial models within broadly defined guidelines.
- Synthesize research information such as comparable company and precedent transactions to be used in modeling, competitive analysis, industry analysis, negotiation support and various other applications.
- Prepare quality first drafts of pitches, marketing materials, management presentations and client presentations.
- Oversee an electronic data room and manage a due diligence process for buy and sell side engagements, working closely with client and target personnel.
- Operate as a multi-project team player working on small teams of 2-3 people, often with minimal leverage.
- Support the VPs and SVPs in identifying and exploring potential new business.
- Perform financial due diligence including analysis, datebooks management, and report writing.
- Perform administrative activities in support of engagements, including: independence compliance documentation, engagement agreements, time budgets and billings.
- Collaborate with other service lines within Transaction Advisory Services such as Transaction Support, Valuations, and Restructuring, as well as other services lines primarily within the Private Mid-Market Practice such as Audit and Tax.
- Ability to quickly understand diverse business models, identify key value drivers and assess the strategic impact of M&A transactions on a company’s growth, profitability and market positioning.

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, analytical, logical thinkers with a passion for transactions and have a very strong attention to detail. Being a strong team player is critical with the ability to adapt to changing requirements or deadlines in support of our clients’ goals.
To be successful in this role, you should have the following attributes:
- Working knowledge of the Canadian and International Finance and Accounting concepts and understanding of key business drivers, principally as they relate to M&A transactions.
- Strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint and financial modeling skills.
- Ability to work independently to complete tasks.
- An ability to work well under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to develop relationships and liaison with EY colleagues and team members to achieve premium outcomes for our clients.
- A “roll up the sleeves” attitude.
- A passion for working with entrepreneurs and private business owners and management teams.
- This role involves interaction with clients operating nationally and globally. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or another similar program
- Minimum 4+ years of relevant work experience (eg. Investment banking, M&A, financing, corporate development, financial analysis, etc.)
Ideally, you’ll also have
A professional designation, such as the:
- CPA designation
- CBV designation or progress towards the completion of the CBV program of studies
- CFA designation or progress towards the completion of the CFA program of studies
