At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

The opportunity

Globally, nationally, and locally, EY is a leading provider of Tax services.  Our credentials are unmatched and remain the reason our firm is considered the “firm of choice” for Tax. EY is also the #1 deal advisor in Asia-Pacific on value and volume of deals for the tenth consecutive year based on 2022 Merger market data. We are the only Big Four firm with a separate business unit focused solely on the financial services industry (known as “FSO”).  By joining our growing team, you will be benefiting from the power and breadth of EY.

As our Senior Consultant, you’ll provide international transaction tax services, including tax structuring, tax due diligence and tax modelling, to a broad range of high-profile clients. You’ll work on interesting and varied projects while developing your technical, commercial and client relationship skills through excellent career development opportunities.

This is a hybrid position based in Naarm – Melbourne or Warang - Sydney. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you’ll work with a collaborative team to deliver practical international transaction tax advice to superannuation funds and other institutional investors. You’ll contribute across the investment lifecycle and gain exposure to a broad range of domestic and cross-border transactions.

  • Support tax structuring, due diligence, tax modelling and transaction document review for inbound and outbound investments, including direct investments, co-investments, fund investments and asset disposals.
  • Research and provide practical advice on global investment structures and international tax matters, including controlled foreign company rules, foreign hybrid limited partnerships, foreign income tax offsets, Double Tax Agreements and hybrid mismatch rules.
  • Manage defined project workstreams and coordinate with domestic and international teams to support integrated advice across infrastructure, real estate, private equity, private credit and other alternative asset classes.
  • Work closely with clients, tax compliance teams and other advisers to help address tax considerations throughout transaction execution and the broader investment lifecycle.

Skills and attributes for success

You’ll bring relevant experience in transaction tax, international tax or financial services tax, together with strong analytical and project management skills. You’ll be comfortable working across multiple engagements and communicating technical matters clearly to clients and colleagues.

  • Relevant experience advising superannuation funds, institutional investors or other financial services clients on investment transactions or international tax matters.
  • A sound understanding of offshore investment structures and internationally used investment vehicles, with exposure to matters such as foreign hybrid limited partnerships, controlled foreign companies, foreign income tax offsets and treaty eligibility.
  • Experience contributing to transaction execution activities, such as tax due diligence, structuring, financial or tax modelling and reviewing transaction documentation.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage priorities, collaborate across teams and build effective client relationships.

Ideally, you’ll have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Exposure to advising superannuation funds, whether in a professional services firm, law firm or in-house environment, on offshore investments across private equity, infrastructure, property or credit strategies.
  • Familiarity with US or other international tax considerations relevant to superannuation investors, including treaty claims, partnership investments or REIT structures.
  • An understanding of investment implementation processes, including transaction document review, tax compliance considerations and coordination with relevant advisers.
  • Experience working with, or an interest in working with, multidisciplinary and international teams on cross-border transactions and ongoing investment matters.
