Manager - Finance Transformation (Business Consulting)

The opportunity

As a Manager in the Finance Consulting team, you will play a pivotal role in helping clients navigate complex, time‑critical finance challenges and own delivery end‑to‑end, from mobilisation through to final recommendations and outcomes. You will be accountable for delivery outcomes across engagements, managing risk, quality, and key decisions while ensuring clear outcomes are delivered rather than analysis alone.

You will lead multi‑workstream finance engagements, partnering closely with CFOs and senior finance leaders to provide clear judgement, commercial insight, and pragmatic solutions. Your work will span strategic, operational, and digital finance transformation, including the design and implementation of future‑ready finance operating models, enterprise performance improvement, and technology‑enabled transformation, including the integration of Agentic AI into Finance functions.

This role is based in (Naarm) Melbourne and offers the opportunity to sit at the centre of delivery, decision‑making, and people leadership in one of the world’s leading professional services firms.

What sets this role apart!

This is a delivery-led Manager role with a strong focus on ownership, senior stakeholder engagement, and commercial judgement. You will be expected to:

  • Own end-to-end delivery across finance transformation engagements, from mobilisation through to outcomes, not just analysis
  • Lead senior stakeholder conversations with CFOs and finance leaders, confidently framing decisions and trade-offs
  • Translate complexity into clear insights, linking analysis directly to business value, performance, and risk outcomes
  • Exercise strong commercial judgement, actively managing scope, priorities, and engagement economics
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams, creating a culture of accountability, coaching, and proactive issue management

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead complex finance transformation projects involving digital strategy, process optimisation, future-state operating model design, and the implementation of enabling technologies such as ERP (SAP, Microsoft Dynamics etc), EPM, AI, RPA, and Power BI. Engage directly with CFOs, GMs, and senior finance leaders, leading senior‑level conversations, framing decisions, and clearly articulating implications, trade‑offs, and the “so what”.
  • Inspire and guide high-performing teams by mentoring junior consultants, collaborating across service lines, and delivering integrated solutions that drive sustainable change. Lead and develop high-performing teams by setting clear expectations, providing coaching and feedback, and fostering an environment where issues are surfaced early and addressed proactively.
  • Provide strategic insights, and support business development through proposal leadership, solution design, and thought leadership, with a strong focus on commercial judgement and delivery credibility. Own delivery across multiple finance workstreams or subject matter areas, ensuring alignment across operating model, planning, reporting, systems, and cost transformation initiatives.
  • Lead and facilitate senior stakeholder workshops and discussions, confidently managing conflicting viewpoints and challenging stakeholders to drive clear, actionable decisions. Translate complex financial and operational data into clear insights, defining structured options, business cases, and recommendations that link directly to value, performance, and risk outcomes.
  • Actively manage scope, priorities, and engagement economics, balancing client expectations with commercial discipline and making informed trade-offs to protect delivery quality and margin.

Skills and attributes for success

  • 5–10 years of experience in finance transformation, consulting, or in-house finance roles, ideally within professional services, Big 4, or industry finance teams. Demonstrated experience in leading end-to-end finance transformation or operating model engagements, delivering clear, measurable outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of core finance functions (e.g. FP&A, record-to-report, order-to-cash), with hands-on experience in finance strategy, process improvement, and system implementations. Strong ability to break down ambiguity into structured problems and articulate the “so what” through clear recommendations and actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence with strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills; experience with tools like SAP, Microsoft, Blackline, or Tagetik is a plus. Solid understanding of commercial drivers, project scope management, and engagement economics within a consulting environment. One of the sectors we work with is the Australian Federal Government and as such Australian Citizenship is preferred.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Relevant qualifications such as CA, CPA, CFA, or MBA
  • A finance related degree
