EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team is supporting a range of government and private sector clients to develop strategies, optimise solutions, shape investment decisions and secure funding for new and improved infrastructure and services.

We are looking for an enthusiastic developing professional, who is dedicated to the transport sector and seeks to advance their career in economic analysis and advisory services, from establishing and articulating problems to delivering concise and precise advice on investment opportunities, options, returns and risks. 


You will have the opportunity to work across transport modes, client segments and geographies, supporting investment appraisals and learning innovative approaches to economic analysis to inform the infrastructure agenda of our cities and regions. Some examples of our recent work include: 

  • Developing the business cases and economic evaluations for city shaping transport investments, such as North East Link and the Level Crossing Removal Project 

  • Providing economic analysis of the benefits and costs of Victoria’s major road and rail projects, including through formal cost-benefit analysis (CBA) using the outputs of multi-modal transport models 

  • Mapping and analysing industry and employment changes that have resulted from infrastructure investments and government decisions 

  • Modelling the interaction between transport projects, urban policy and development outcomes, for example looking at the impact of transport investments on property values. 


Your key responsibilities 

  • Undertake economic appraisals / CBAs for transport projects  

  • Analyse economic trends, collaborating with wider service offerings e.g. real estate and retail 

  • Contribute to high quality presentations and reports for a range of audiences and purposes, from executive advice to detailed technical notes 

  • Support teams to deliver Infrastructure Advisory’s portfolio of projects, from business case development to policy and commercial studies. 


Skills and attributes for success 

  • Highly numerate, degree-qualified in a relevant discipline, such as economics or engineering  

  • Strong Excel skills and modelling best practice, with a high attention to detail and excellent critical thinking skills 

  • Familiarity with transport planning and economic principles, and awareness of practices 

  • Self-starter, strong ability to undertake own research, confident with asking considered questions and offering options and solutions 

  • Strong sense of ownership of actions and responsibility for quality delivery 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines, communicate well with project leads and team members to coordinate delivery. 



Ideally, you’ll also have 

  • Successfully contributed to a number of project appraisals / CBAs, capturing a range of benefit streams e.g. transport efficiency, safety, amenity 

  • Experience of using strategic and other transport model results to inform economic analysis and CBA 

  • Knowledge of data/spatial analytical methods and software packages (e.g. which could include one or more of Power BI, Alteryx, GIS packages, programming, etc.)
