You will help our U.S. government defense clients navigate the complex world of modern data engineering and analytics by leading product development teams. We’ll look to you to provide our clients with a unique business perspective on how to build tools that can transform and improve their entire organization – starting with key business issues they face. Our UI/UX Lead opportunity requires skills in design, development, deployment, and maintenance of new and innovative solutions. You will be leading UI/UX efforts on our product development teams, working in tandem with product managers to help teams ideate on the art of the possible while setting realistic expectations. We are not building software that only meets the ask; we are building software that caters to end user needs. The role will focus on EY’s U.S. government defense clients to deliver professional services and manage business development activities.

 

Your key responsibilities

You’ll spend most of your time working with our product development teams to deliver custom software development solutions that tackle frontline mission priorities.

 

Also included:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor mid-level and junior UI/UX developers to implement UI/UX best practices and experiences for new and existing applications
  • Work with functional and product leads to understand client and end user needs
  • Foster relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels. Consistently deliver quality client services. Drive high-quality work products within expected timeframes and on budget. Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes. Manage expectations of client service delivery. Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.
  • Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Demonstrate ability to assimilate new knowledge. Possess good business acumen. Remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge.

Technical Expertise

  • Design Proficiency: Extensive experience in UI/UX design, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and creating high-fidelity visual designs. Ability to support custom and platform development teams.
  • User-Centered Design: Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies. Ability to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that meet the needs of diverse user groups, including military personnel.

 

Leadership and Team Management

  • Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of UI/UX designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Experience in managing team dynamics, resolving conflicts, and promoting professional growth.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, execute, and deliver complex design projects on time and within budget. Proficiency in Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).
  • Stakeholder Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders, including military personnel, executives, and cross-functional teams. Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

 

Problem-Solving and Innovation

  • User Research and Testing: Expertise in conducting user research, usability testing, and gathering user feedback to inform design decisions. Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable design improvements.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify design issues, evaluate solutions, and implement effective strategies to enhance user experience.

 

A successful Manager will deliver results through:

  • Business requirements gathering: Ability to discuss and determine business problems with leaders of various functional areas within an organization, and aid in determining the appropriate key performance indicators needing to be captured and monitored.
  • Enhance User Experience: Lead the design and implementation of user-centered interfaces that are intuitive, efficient, and meet the specific needs of military personnel and other DoD stakeholders. Conduct user research and usability testing to gather feedback and continuously improve the user experience.
  • Drive Design Excellence: Establish and maintain design standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all projects. Foster a culture of design excellence within the team, encouraging innovation and creativity while adhering to DoD requirements and regulations.
  • Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, and other stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration to align design efforts with project goals and objectives.
  • Provide Strategic Insights: Translate user research and data analysis into actionable design recommendations that drive strategic decision-making. Present findings and design solutions to senior leadership and other stakeholders, demonstrating the value of user-centered design in achieving mission-critical objectives.

 

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • DoD or government experience preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in UI/UX design, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and creating high-fidelity visual designs
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies. Ability to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that meet the needs of diverse user groups, including military personnel
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring a team of UI/UX designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ability to manage team dynamics, resolve conflicts, and promote professional growth
  • Engagement leadership experience including: managing junior level consulting staff, providing regular status updates, and monitoring project economics and hands on technical expertise as well as managing client relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be comfortable working in-person as needed in the greater Washington, DC area

 

Due to the nature of our work in the Government and Public Sector, work may be required to be completed at client, EY and/or contractor sites. Our goal is to assign professionals to projects within a commutable distance of their work location office.  In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs. Candidates should be willing to travel on average 25% to 30% or more in a hybrid environment.

What we offer
 
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $141,200 to $258,900. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $169,500 to $294,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
