Backend Java Developer (Spring Boot) – Senior - EY GDS Spain – Hybrid

The opportunity

Join our Digital Engineering team supporting large-scale clients in the Financial Services and Insurance sector. In this role, you will design and implement modern backend solutions using Spring Boot and microservices architecture, contributing to highly impactful digital transformation projects.

As a member of our team in the EY GDS Spain office in Málaga, you will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience by working on exciting projects using the newest technologies and approaches. You will support clients in selecting the most suitable business solutions and play a key role in their transformation journeys.

 

Your key responsibilities

You will design, implement, and maintain backend services and microservices using Java Spring Boot, ensuring performance, scalability, and code quality. Working in an agile environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Example responsibilities include:

  • Develop and orchestrate services and microservices
  • Build backend logic and APIs using Java Spring Boot
  • Implement and maintain unit tests and ensure code quality
  • Work with Git following branching standards such as git‑flow
  • Collaborate with agile teams and contribute to project planning and delivery
  • Stay up to date with backend development best practices
  • Participate in continuous learning and knowledge-sharing initiatives

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong foundation in backend development with Java and Spring Boot
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and API design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in agile teams while managing tasks autonomously
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • +3 years of experience working with Java Spring Boot microservices
  • Experience with unit testing and code versioning with Git
  • Solid knowledge of SQL
  • Advanced level of English

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience with SonarQube or other code quality tools
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions…)
  • Experience with Docker and container-based development
  • Experience working in agile environments
