EY’s Independence and Risk Management functions protect the firm, our clients, and our people by ensuring compliance with auditor independence rules, regulatory expectations, and EY global policies. The Luxembourg Independence Team plays a central role in enabling responsible growth, supporting engagement teams, and safeguarding EY’s reputation in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
As a Senior Associate, you will be an integral part of the Country Independence Team, working closely with the Country Independence Leader, Deputy, and the broader Risk Management community.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will support independence processes across audit, advisory and tax service lines, ensuring EY Luxembourg remains fully compliant with global, European, and local independence requirements. You will assist with technical assessments, process monitoring, independence systems, and support engagement teams in navigating independence topics.
You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with international teams (including GDS, regional independence colleagues, and US counterparts for SEC‑related matters), and contribute to continuous improvements of independence procedures across the firm.
Responsibilities
Core Independence Responsibilities
- Support Independence teams with independence assessments and provide technical assistance on a variety of independence subjects which may include audit tenders, non-audit services, business relationships, personal independence, and other regulatory topics.
- Assist in reviewing Scopes of Work (SOWs) and service permissibility under SEC, EU PIE/OEPI, and local independence rules.
- Support the maintenance of independence tools and databases, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Liaise with Global Delivery Services (GDS) to ensure timely processing of independence updates in EY GIS and other systems.
- Help implement and update independence processes, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the Luxembourg Independence Team.
- Assist and support with internal and external inspections, working closely with the Independence Team and Risk Management leadership.
Skills & Attributes for Success
Required
- A university degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Law, or similar.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in audit, compliance, risk management, or a similar regulated environment (experience in a Big 4 firm is a strong asset).
- Good understanding of (EY) audit firm operations and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Strong interest in independence, compliance, and regulatory topics.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills in English; French or German is considered an asset.
- Proactive, client-oriented mindset with the ability to work autonomously and escalate issues appropriately.
Assets
- Exposure to SEC, EU PIE/OEPI, or other independence regulatory environments.
- Experience preparing compliance or legal‑type memos.
